Hyundai Motor America Reports Its Best-Ever First Quarter and Best-Ever March
PR Newswire

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., April 1

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., April 1 /PRNewswire/ — Hyundai Motor America today announced an all-time sales record for both the first quarter of the year and for the month of March as the company's all-new Sonata and Tucson clearly connected with new-car buyers across the country.

(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/...01/HYUNDAILOGO)

The announcement was made from the floor of the New York Auto Show where on Wednesday the company introduced its second and third iterations of the 2011 Sonata. The Sonata Hybrid, the company's first U.S. hybrid, gets up to 39 mpg on the highway, using breakthrough lithium-polymer battery technology. The Sonata 2.0T delivers 274 horsepower from its turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while attaining an estimated 34 mpg.

In March, the company sold 47,002 vehicles, up 15.4 percent versus one year ago, marking the fifteenth consecutive month of year-over-year retail market share gains for Hyundai. And for the quarter, Hyundai Motor America sold 111,509 vehicles, outpacing the previous record first quarter of 2006. Retail-only sales data indicates that March marks Sonata's emergence as America's third best-selling mid-size sedan, trailing only Camry and Accord, and outselling vehicles like the Altima, Fusion, and Malibu in showrooms across the country. "It's gratifying to announce these strong results in New York as we introduce three new models, including our new flagship luxury sedan, Equus, to the freshest lineup in the industry," said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America's vice present of national sales. "We're confident improving availability of our new products will allow us to sustain this strong sales momentum."

On a year-over-year basis, Sonata was up 52.6 percent, Tucson was up 129.1 percent, Santa Fe was up 62.8 percent, and Genesis was up 31.9 percent, marking the 9th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gain for Genesis.

NISSAN U.S. MARCH SALES INCREASE 43.3 PERCENT
Nissan sales grow 44 percent; Infiniti up 37.3 percent

Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today reported March 2010 sales of 95,468 units versus 66,634 units a year earlier, an increase of 43.3 percent, compared with March 2009.

“As the industry continues to show signs of life, we want to make sure that Nissan continues to get an even bigger piece of the sales pie,” said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, NNA. "After achieving a record 9 percent share in the first two months of 2010, our 43 percent increase in March confirms Nissan is a big winner in the industry."

NNA INFORMATION

* Combined Nissan and Infiniti sales of 95,468 units were 43.3 percent higher than March sales a year before of 66,634 units.
* To ensure consistency in global sales reporting, Nissan North America calculates monthly variances on a straight-percentage basis, unadjusted for the number of selling days. March 2010 had 26 selling days, compared with 25 selling days in March 2009.
Nissan sales increase 44 percent on strength of both cars, trucks

Nissan set a March record for car sales, including Versa, up 105.1 percent; Maxima, up 93.0 percent; and Altima, up 26.3 percent. Trucks also demonstrated strength, with most models showing double-digit percent increases over March 2009.

“The Nissan division saw sales in March at the highest rate since last August,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. “We’re particularly encouraged by the performance of core models like Altima, Versa, Sentra and Rogue, which drive our business.”

Healthy demand in both the Mercedes passenger car and light-truck categories fueled the increase in sales volume for the month. The new 9th generation E-Class continued to exhibit strong momentum with sales of 5,042 (up 154.9%) and the sporty GLK followed suit with sales of 2,333.

Default Audi March Sales

Audi U.S. Sales in March Set a Record, Giving the Brand the Best First Quarter in its History

- Overall Audi sales in March increased 33.5% from a year earlier

- March sales of the Audi A5 set an all-time record

- TDI clean diesel models made up nearly half of all A3 and Q7 sales
HERNDON, Va., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi today reported its March U.S. sales set a record for the month, rising 33.5% from a year earlier. The results also helped Audi achieve the best first-quarter sales since it began marketing cars in the U.S., and sent 2010 year-to-date sales up 34.8%.

In the most recent month, Audi U.S. sales reached 8,589 luxury cars and SUVs, compared to 6,433 in March 2009. That topped the previous March sales record set in 2007. First quarter sales in 2010 topped the previous record set in the first quarter of 2007. Strong demand across the Audi model lineup led to the record U.S. March results.

"It's one thing to improve on sales from a year earlier when the U.S. economy was in a malaise," said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. "But it says something more profound about the Audi momentum story when the brand notches a record sales month in 2010 and a record sales quarter."

Audi A5 sets single-month sales record

Strong demand for the luxury performance Audi A5/S5 coupes continued in March with sales rising 59.8% over March 2009 and an increase of 41.8% from the first three months of 2009.

Sales of the Audi A5 Cabriolet in March reached their highest monthly level. The A5 Cabriolet arrived in the U.S. market last August. Combined A5/S5 coupe and cabriolet sales increased 154.9% in March 2009 from a year earlier.

Big increase for Audi A3, lead by the '2010 Green Car of the Year'

Demand for the Audi A3 luxury compact car jumped 100% from a year earlier. Audi A3 sales increased 109.2% through the first three months of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009.

Those gains were due to strong sales of the A3 TDI model, which is the reigning 2010 Green Car of the Year. The clean diesel Audi A3 TDI continued to top forecasts by comprising 49.5% of the model's sales mix.

Audi Q5, Audi Q7 March sales see big gains

The Audi Q5 crossover has consistently ranked among the most highly sought Audi vehicles since its debut in early 2009. Sales of the versatile Q5 increased 55.5% in March from a year earlier and 60.5% when compared to February 2010 sales.

The Audi Q7 SUV also gained in March with sales that finished 19.4% higher than a year earlier. The Q7 TDI clean diesel model remains a hit with consumers, making up 40.9% of the sales mix for the most recent month.

Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales fell 10.4% in February from a year earlier largely due to constricted inventories.

Am I seeing this right?

Toyota sold 25,781 Rav4 models in March? Simply unbelievable!

Rav4 sales absolutely obliterated the competition! The only competitor that was even anywhere close to the Rav4 was the Escape.

Lexus sales continue to increase in Japan, mostly thanks to strong HS demand there. Good to see Lexus doing well in Japan.

Toyota outsold GM and Ford for the month. Camry and Corolla sales back to their usual top spots in each segment.

This month is just a perfect example of Toyota's marketing and financial muscle. Even with the media and govt witch hunt against Toyota, Toyota was able to post a massive sales gain just from increased incentives. The competition has always feared Toyota increasing incentives, and this is a perfect example.

With that said, the entire market is up compared to the deflated market last year. Big increases for many automakers this month, not too surprising. Honda must be a little worried, as their sales increased less than the major competition.

Combined Hyundai/Kia sales only continue to get closer to Honda sales. Nissan sales also getting closer to Honda sales.

Very solid sales for the Ford Fusion. First time I believe that sales have gone past the 20K mark.

The Fusion was 4th in sales for the segment this month, after the Camry and Accord and Altima.

Very solid month for Altima sales.

RX sales continue to astound, and GX sales continue to be quite good.

Very good month for the Sonata. It will be interesting to see how Sonata sales do in the coming months.

Very tight between Lexus and Benz. Lexus just barely outsold Benz. C-Class and especially E-Class sales continue to amaze.

Default BMW March Sales

BMW Group U.S. Reports March 2010 Sales
01.04.2010 Press Release
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – April 1, 2010... The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported March sales of 21,670 vehicles, an increase of 2.6 percent from the 21,125 vehicles sold in the same month of 2009. For the first quarter, the BMW Group also reported a total sales volume of 55,051 vehicles, up 7.4 percent compared to 51,244 vehicles sold in the first three months of last year.

BMW Brand Sales
Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 3.1 percent in March for a total of 18,060 vehicles mainly driven by BMW’s 3 Series (9,413 units; +11.2%) and the Sports-Activity-Vehicles range consisting of the X3 (716 units; +58.1%), X5 (2,536 units: 26.7%) and X6 (363 units; +21.4%). January through March, BMW brand sales were up 8.4 percent to 46,323 vehicles compared to 42,731 vehicles sold in the same period of 2009.

Diesel-powered vehicles continued to show good acceptance. Combined sales of the two vehicles available in the US – the BMW 335d and X5 xDrive 35d – introduced at the beginning of 2009, increased more than fivefold to 991 units in March. With 2,154 units sold in the first quarter, the X5 Advanced Diesel remains the best selling premium diesel powered vehicle in the US.

“This month concludes a very positive first quarter for BMW as we are on track with our profitable growth targets,” said Jim O’Donnell, President of BMW of North America, LLC. “In reality, we are anxiously awaiting the market introduction of our new 5 Series in June and while we manage the challenge of very little inventory of the current version until we get there, we are delighted with the performance of our other products picking up the pace.”

BMW Used Cars
In March, sales of BMW’s used vehicles (Including certified pre-owned vehicles) sold through BMW’s dealership network increased 26.5 percent to 15,938 vehicles. January through March, used vehicle sales were up 0.6 percent to 39,848 vehicles, again with over half of these buyers new to the BMW brand.

MINI Brand Sales
MINI USA’s sales volume remained stable at 3,610 cars, versus the 3,605 units reported in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, MINI USA also reported sales of 8,728 automobiles, an increase of 2.5 percent.

There's some interesting data with the premium and luxury SUVs. RX by volume is up 30.5%, which is quite good. Take a look at the gains from the competition whether by size or cost. MDX is up 47.7% by volume. The SRX is up 550.2%. The Enclave is up 41.5%. The X5 managed 26.7% increase. The Q5 (smaller sized but same price range) is up 55.5%. The M class is up 28.6% while the even larger and pricier GL Class is up 68.2%.
My mistake, missed Altima sales. Wow, that's a very good month for the Altima then!

It's interesting that while the Sonata had a very good month, the Altima, Fusion and Camry all had great months.
