Toyota...the good ol' days...
A while ago i detailed a 1985 Toyota Camry LE. I remember thinking to myself it was amazing that this car was still in nearly perfect condition after 24 years in the salt infested roads of upstate NY. The point of this post is not to show off any work i did, but to point out the fact that, taken care of, with proper maintenance, a car can last a lifetime...Toyota's especially.
^Power sunroof...that STILL WORKS.
And yes, that does say 86,666.6 miles LOL. Low for this cars age to be sure!
Amazing. Do you have/or know of an amazing Toyota or Lexus? Has it been the subject of yours or someone else's torturous chores/driving for more than 15 years? lets see em!

Wow, it's crazy that Camry's used to be that small and basic.
I can't help but compare the size and specs of my Yaris sedan to this. Today, people view the Yaris as a really small car. This Camry is just 6" longer but it's all hood length. The Yaris has more interior space. They are the same width and the Yaris is taller. The Camry even has significantly less power and features.
Interesting.
Good find. I still see many 2nd Gen Camry's on the road but never these first Gen's.

Yes, they were an excellent car. The only widespread problem on the 1Gen Camry was a tendency for the ignition modules to fail and leave one stranded (that happened to an old girl friend of mine, and to a few others I knew with that model). But, aside from that, it was pretty much bulletproof (by then much of the earlier Toyota rust problems had been addressed), and, of course, the Camry went on to become an icon in the marketplace, and the Accord's arch-rival.

my parent's friend had a 1990 LS400 as a daily driver. Lasted until late 2009 when it got totalled as well.

I know the older camrys around here in IL don't look like that. I am talking about the late 80's- early 90's models.... all filed with RUST holes... I have never even seen a camry that old like in your pictures, but that must be a 1 in a million story irght there.... bet it was garage kept its whole life and probably never seen winter driving, hence why it survived the salty roads.

Great looking Toyota. Maintenance is the key and staying on top of all the little things that break, fall off (rare) or get scuffed. Here's our '66 Corona taken around '69 at a drivers training course. We drove this for 20 years before passing it on to our daughter.
