[CENTER]Spy Shots: Next-gen Audi S8 may boast 620 HP from Lambo-derived V10
When the Audi S8 was nixed from the automaker's lineup late last year, the news produced a collective sigh around Autoblog Towers. Audi's largest, most powerful sedan held a special place in our hearts, but redemption appears to be right around corner – the Nürburgring's Carousel, to be exact.
With the introduction of the standard A8 in the rearview mirror, Audi has begun work on the S-ified variant of its stately saloon, and like the RS6, it's rumored to be powered by a Lamborghini Gallardo-derived V10, with a duo of turbochargers hanging from the exhaust manifolds.
The output of the next S8 will jump from the outgoing model's 444 horsepower to somewhere north of 600 hp, with torque boosted from around 400 pound-feet to upwards of 550 lb-ft of twist.
Although these spy shots don't provide a clear glimpse of the stylistic upgrades, expect a more chiseled front fascia, lower ride height and modified rear diffuser. Quad tailpipes hint at the 5.2-liter twin-turbo beast within, while massive stoppers are expected to be framed by 20- or 21-inch wheels.
We're expecting the S8 to make its debut sometime later this year or early in 2011, with sales beginning in the middle of next year.

That is some serious power for a large 4 door sedan. Well done Audi!
Not likely going to happen. Lexus can't get the v10 down to cost levels that will make the LS pricing reasonable. The v10 in the Audi R8 is IMO a far superior motor as well as car compared to the LF-A as it cost less than half, is faster, likely handles as good and is still a premium exotic/supercar.
I like the v10 offering from Lexus for what it is, but by the time it comes to market, the HP and performance levels will be far obsolete.
I wouldn't call it ugly, but it isn't exactly all that elegant looking. I will however hold judgement until I see one in person.
yawn... not much to see here folks... wake me up when Lexus puts a V10 in an LS-F please..................

No amount of power or performance will change how disappointing and ugly the new A8 is.

Aside from size, there isn't a whole lot aesthetically that distinguish the 4, 6, and 8... Maybe it's getting 620hp in hopes that it's fast enough that no one will be able to take a good look at it while on the road...?

I am crossing my fingers and hoping that both the next-gen S Class and next-gen LS are both home runs so they can blow away this new A8 in worldwide sales, and send Audi back to the drawing board.
As a fan of many previous generations of the A8, this new A8 is a complete and utter disgrace . People at Ingolstadt should feel ashamed for tarnishing the A8 line with this new generation.

Good God, that may be the most incredible interior I have seen (in its class).
I for one love the 2011 A8. The interior is in a league that few can ever hope to reach. The exterior is handsome and subtle. Will it turn heads? Not as much as the S-Class or XJ, but it wasn't designed to do so. It looks like a larger A4? Well, considering the A4 is an excellent design, I don't see the problem with it.
If you want flash, the A7 is coming soon.
