Mike you would hate me then LOL. I consider myself a more 'relaxed' driver and tend to put cruise on the speed limit. I always see folks flying by at 75mph and think to myself, why in such a damn hurry. So just to spite people, I'll hog the left lane at times and folks will sit on my ***. In this case, I do 1 of 2 things. I'll either remain at my speed drawing it out. Or brake check them . I've had quite a few angry faces and middle fingers thrown at me. One fellah even waited till he got off at his exit to throw the middle finger at me, guess he didn't want me following him.
At the end of the day, after all these altercations, I just smile and wave back at those individuals. Call it ignorant bliss .

It all comes back down to, whats the rush? You and I know that not everyone is carrying their pregnant wife in the backseat. As I said, I rarely do it. If I happen to be in the left lane, and I see someone gunning it behind me, I'm less likely to move. It's not my concern why they are speeding and if they need to get around me, by all means let them. Especially when moving requires me to press more on the gas to pass the guy next to me, or press on the brakes to get behind him, rendering me going faster or slower than I want to. Their problem =/= mine.

I'm usually a very placid and tamed driver, I've busted out the middle finger a couple times and it is only when the opposing drivers are being total doucheB'z. Once I was at a red light and the light barely turned green and I got a super long honk as well as a very angry look as he turned right and I gave him my finger, I really wish I had a front bumper ram bar so I could chase him down and show him some karma.

Indeed. Until the late 1940's or so, the electric turn-signal system, with flashing red/yellow lights, did not come standard on most vehicles.....it was either optional or not available at all. The traditional left-arm signals (which some bikers still use today) was a classic part of driving school.

To be honest, in all of the years, yes I have, and am surprised the hinge on my knuckle has not fallen off.
But these days, I really do not find myself in that situation as generally with a quick car I just remove myself from the situation much of the time.
I have found that being in a slow car tends to place me in more of these situations in life. Plus I am so tired anyhow for driving 400 mile a day at times that I care less. I did have an elderly lady in her Buick/Cadillac give me the finger once which I found humorous. There are several categories of the middle finger and this one had the 'thrust in the air' associated with it.

My gosh we've got some angels in this forum....Sure riding in the left lane going the speed limit is wrong, but for every example of people speeding for a legit reason, such as you mentioned, which even in this case, that' is not recommended and you should get a police escort or ambulance because speeding you are endangering yourself and others around you, there are tons of others just speeding because they have a lead foot or a stick up their ***. Sorry for the run-on sentence. My point is that these folks who are speeding do so recklessly at times, jumping from lane to lane and a little order, at least in my opinion doesn't seem too much to ask for.

What really drives me up the wall is when I am already speeding like 80 and some f-er is still riding up my ***. That and people who dont signal and cut over.

believe me, i completely understand. I have serious road rage issues and I have done the brake check myself several times. As someone who isnt a tame driver all the time, it would bother me if you were in frotn of me, thats all im saying. I cant explain why I like to drive faster than most people, its all about being efficient with time I guess. That and I believe I can save fuel and brake pads if I dont follow people who dont know how to drive.

I used to be a road rager a while back, every little thing ticking me off, and I was the same going 70-75ish, then after my second ticket and gas prices jumped, I pretty much calmed down and keep the speed limit nowadays.

several thoughts come to mind......
1. maybe you look like the kind of person people want to flip off
2. some (many) people don't use the high beams, and don't know it's meant to tell people to move over. 12 years ago, someone in a 4banger altima was creeping up behind me and flashing his lights. me and my passengers were like "wtf is he doing that? what an as*******"
3. since people don't know to move over, you just have to deal with it and swerve around them.
4. if someone flips you off, just laugh it off and salute them with the chin up.
these days, the only thing that pisses me off is when someone cuts me off (within a few feet of the car) without signaling.
and i'm a firm supporter of brake checking tailgaters. driving instructors have always told people to keep a cushion between cars in case of emergency stops. You shouldn't be riding my ***. The tailgater's reaction won't be fast enough if i truly have to make a stop, and i will be rear ended.

Mike,, I def feel ya on the #1 salute, and I get them all the time; but for different reasons(obviously). I know for a fact that there isn't a day that goes by when I don't receive one. As a trucker, I have to deal with road rage on a daily basis, as well as all of the other people doing STUPID things in front of me, except MY fast lane(as it is in most states illegal for me to be in the far left) is the middle lane. The way that people drive(truckers included,, all of us are not angels) is astounding. I too have been assaulted by the Prius brigade jumping in front of me,most of the time at the last minute, and slowing me down. Honestly,,would YOU want to jump in front of 40 tons of truck traveling at 70 mph(my trucks governed top speed)? Yet,, day in and day out the Prius assault begins. I too have to agree with your statement on "smug" honda owners,as it seems to me as well that I get assaulted by them the most; regardless of whatever state I am traveling in. Now I know that NO ONE wants to be behind a truck for any reason, and that is understandable, but why be stupid about your actions tho? I DON'T ride on the bumpers of people, I DO move over(traffic permitting) to let you onto the highway, and as long as you at least give some conscious effort to let me know you are aware of my presence, will make a hole for you in front of me so you can change lanes. Yet, still I get subjected to the constant "brake checks"(Jewcano,,LOL!!), the "you're going too fast for my car so I am gonna slow you down with my Prius", and of course the "well you didn't let me over when I wanted to cut you off in traffic, so you're #1 buddy" EVERYDAY. All I can tell you is welcome to my world. The world of idioticy, inconsiderateness, and just plain smugness. In most cases, this is the view that most people have of me in their mirrors, and I am just fine with it. I will not aggressively persue you, but if you are brave enuff to do something stupid in front of me, this is what you will see in the mirror. I do, however, monitor my own driving to make sure that I do not counteract your stupidity with my own.

While I have become calmer as a driver throughout the months, I still have situations where I am needed to rush around.
I find it extremely annoying and dangerous when someone is being a rolling left lane road block. That angers drivers who are, yes, driving faster than you. That is their decision to make, not yours. If you are a mature driver, you would move over because those are the safe and defensive things to do, otherwise you provoke behavior such as tailgating and road rage. A lot of you pride yourself in, "well just move over, I'm going the speed limit.", but chances are that means they will simply punish someone who ISNT in the PASSING LANE just because of your arrogance and stubbornness.
A lot of times, I see these left lane blockers going the same speed if not SLOWER than the people in the right lanes. This causes traffic problems. I've seen traffic back ups simply because of one stupid assed driver who wasn't aware or was too arrogant to just move over and let the faster traffic through.
It irks me because I have to drive in these conditions, and while sometimes I am the one who is pissed because of the slow driver, sometimes I am the slow driver in the right hand lane being punished because someone wants to get around the left lane blocker.

First, I NEVER use the middle finger, to scared of getting shot!
I really wish there was lane choice, like Germany, a slow lane and a fast lane, and if you are going in fast lane and a car coming up faster, flashes the high beams, the slower driver moves over. Very simple, but in the U.S., if you flash your high beams again it ticks people off and again a crazy person might shoot you! One thing that kind of works sometimes is during the day on the interstate if you are behind someone and you are in a Lexus, turn the foglights on, the yellow foglights are very distinctive, and sometimes tells the person in front, to get out of the way. Lastly I hate to pass on the right, but sometimes there is no other choice.

Same thing happened to my a wife once. She was in a rush and she moved around some slow guy with a dually truck in the fast lane. At the stop light a few miles later he bumps the back of our car with his truck and gets out of the car and starts yelling at my wife thru our window.... my wife was scared and went thru the red light not wanting to wait for the green light. and as for kids, i wouldnt really mind, my kids find it funny to flick people off as we drive by, especially on their school bus. one of the older kids on their bus did this to a truck behind them and the man cut in front of them and blocked the road, and called the cops. needless to say the kid was suspended.

Most frustrating thing in driving, for me, it slow left-lane drivers... if you can obey 55 or 65 speed limits, you can also obey "slower traffic keep right"... horn and lights for me, then a "return" gesture if I get one first...
