There are different classes of cars at the Pikes Peak hill climb. If you are running a vehicle in the Unlimited class (as Millen will be doing with this Hyundai machine) then as I understand there are no real restrictions.

The current record holder for Pikes Peak, the Suzuki Pikes Peak car, as well as the previous record holder, the Celica Pikes Peak car both participated in the Unlimited Class.

Basically, what projectdna said .

Fortunately, for whatever reason, that hasn't happened.

Yet they never wanted to do the same thing for the Mt. Washington road in NH, which is essentially a somewhat lower version of the Pikes' Peak road. Go figure.
The EPA does a lot of things trying to make themselves look useful. Lucky for us, in this instance they failed to realize their goal.

Well, Hyundai does have a tradition in Pike's Peak.

Here is a video of Rod Millen (Rhys' Father) winning the 1992 Pike's Peak in a Hyundai Scoupe.

a. showroom stock (i think it's now "super stock"), according to his resume: http://www.millenworks.com/html/abou...Highlights.pdf

b. and if it is a showroom stock-class car, it's definitely fwd. and considering that it's a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, it must be pushing some serious boost.
