Yep, turbo engine, sports handling package and sport seats... long drive again today, could ride in it forever... MUCH better than the Sonata. And the remaining standard package was strong for standard options. Handling was MUCH better than TDI and GTI wasn't quite the best "aura" for clients. I took one to lunch today, he LOVED it!
Also, TDI didn't offer same discount and financing... there is another car in the mix opefully this summer... ... so frugality still rules for now

btw - In your area/climate I assume AWD was not a big requirement when selecting a DD kind of car.

Wisconsin, where he lives, typically has 6 months of winter in an average year. But VW, unfortunately, doesn't offers the 4Motion system in any of its the American-market Jettas, gas or diesel. You have to move up to the CC (or an Audi) to get it. That is a omission that I have mentioned, several times, to the VW people at shows.

Do any of the Golf or Passats offer 4Motion? btw, I tend to not give the show people the time of day at autoshows, they are pretty much useless and a waste of my time.

I can't speak for rdgdawg, but I've found for most city/suburban/expressway driving condtions, FWD with TRAC and VSC is more than sufficient. AWD is better but nothing really wrong with the FWD set up for most drivers.

+1... they are pretty good here about the roads and the Wolf comes with Continental Conti Extreme Contacts, which I have used here successfully before... and when it really snows, AWD still won't cut it, stay in, have a cold one and just ride it out
