I am new to MA and moved there in 2009. I hope some MA drivers can give me some advice....
I bought a 2010 RX350 in May 2009 while living in MA. My registration says it does not expire until Sept 2010. The sticker on my car has a "5" on it.
When do I need to get my re-registered?
When do I need to go get my car inspected?
The RMV website is the opposite of helpful (unless I have tinting or neon light questions) :-|

I moved from MA a couple of years ago.
It plays out as you outlined.
You bought the car in May so your inspection needs to be done in May.
I am not sure why you have this timeframe on your registration (transfer from another vehicle perhaps?). Just renew it online in August, and the new one will expire at the end of September (I think they are 2 year terms).
I agree that the website is weak. They have shopping mall mini registries that are OK.
Off topic: I am not sure where you are located but I would recommend a dealer other than Ira for service.
