Personally I don't think it looks bad. Its certainly smaller than I would have thought.

BMW UK doesn't offer the X1 with a 6-cylinder engine.

Even if we take the 2.3L Diesel with xDrive, it weighs 3674lbs empty.

It produces 204 horsepower, and bogged with "4-wheel drive" and the way diesels generally lay out the power, I doubt that the "biggest" engine of the X1 would feel spritely.

Small diesels, of course, are much more popular in Europe than they are here, for a variety of reasons. Over there, $5-7 a gallon fuel prices (measured in liters, of course) are an everyday reality. Here, if we briefly see $4 a gallon, it is considered a national crisis.

As far as interior....

Well, taking into account the limited view of this picture, this is certainly not an interior that I would call Rubbish.

That little 2.0 diesel, though, puts out 258 ft-lbs. of torque, at a very low 1750 RPM....a pretty fair amount of spunk from a standing stop. That's as much as a number of N/A gas V6s in the 3.5-4.0L range...and should be plenty for a 3600-3700-lb. vehicle, even with AWD.
