Current S-class parked next to an original Mini Cooper

My mother had an original white mini and would regularly travel the country with her, my grandad, my grandma and both me and my brother in it. Brilliant little car and she loved it.

The original Mini, in 1959, was the brainchild of Sir Alec Issigonis, a Greek automotive engineer working in Britain for Austin and Morris. It was the first production car to utilize a transverse engine/FWD for space efficiency (earlier French and American FWD designs, like Citroen and Cord, had used longitudinal-mount engines). Today, of course, a majority, if not most, of the world's cars and minivans (and a number of SUVs) use that general layout.

My mother had the original Mini for a couple of years for commuting use, but she was living in England at the time. She enjoyed it.

You could probably build a new one from new parts/body shell etc. Production ended in the UK 2000/2001 ish.
