Default Rearview Couture: Auto air freshners are $50M business

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/15/r...-50m-business/

The cash register says $50 million dollars went into the car freshener business last year – an $8 million drop from the year before – and that means a lot of pine, rain, and cinnamon apple fragrance into car interiors. At an average price of $2.65, that put nearly 19 million air fresheners in circulation in 2009, and the between scent creators and scent removers, the olfactory onslaught won't be letting up this year.

Instead of more purchases being made, however, industry reps say the profusion of flavors are where the money trail leads. Little Trees' (pictured) site alone offers 97 different odiferous options. Black Ice, which replicates the scent of men's cologne – whatever that means – is the runaway hit in Michigan. We thought it odd enough that people wanted their cars to smell like pine trees, but men's cologne? Really?

I have a bottle of Griots Garage leather scent spray,
Two sprays on the carpet now and then and have a great leather scent.
Also love Zaino leather conditioner which provides a great leather scent for a couple of days.

Wow that is so tiny lol.

A company with $50m market cap barely a small cap company, let alone an entire industry...

Dad has bought a few, me...nada. If the car needs one of these...something needs to be cleaned rather than covering up the smell.

.........Provided, of course, that you aren't dealing with the normal "New-Car-Smell" that most new vehicles have for the first few months, or what is normal for leather seats. With most brands of vehicles, it is more or less the same slightly-sweet smell, but some new Hyundais have a smell that is a little different.

They actually don't sell for much more than that (free) at most auto-parts stores, especially the discount ones.

At an average price of $2.65
I've seen them a lot cheaper than that....even recently.
