Post Dutch offer special driving test for those who fear tests

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...zVwVAD9FQP05G1

AMSTERDAM — Some people flunk their driving tests because they can't parallel park. Others flunk for not entering traffic safely. And an unlucky few flunk for fear of flunking itself.

In response, the Netherlands has launched a special driving exam for people who suffer from acute test anxiety.

Examiners try to put test-takers at ease. The exam pace is leisurely, and drivers are allowed to take a "time out" if the pressure becomes too much for them.

But won't this put people behind the wheel who are liable to freeze in the face of a stressful traffic situation?

No, spokeswoman Irene Heldens of the country's Licensing Bureau said Thursday. Test anxiety is not linked to poor performance in real life.

It will remain safe on the roads," she said.

I guess if they stop in the middle of the railroad tracks and don't see or hear the train coming, the instructor lets them stay there until they do, and move out on their own

DRIVING can be high-pressure, stressful, and sometimes call for split-second life-or-death decisions.

If you can't handle that...and no fault of yours if you can't...don't get behind the wheel!

We can mock this but the Dutch driving test is pretty tough and I'd wager that most posters on this thread would fail it outright and be riding the bus to get around.

well, every country is different so i don't think we can compare it that way. driving test could be tough there but probably that's a good reflection of driving conditions over there as well
