British motorists face being prosecuted if they are caught using their iPods or other portable music devices while driving, The (London) Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.
The newspaper revealed that police across the U.K. were launching the offensive. It also discovered cops in Wales had fined three drivers already for using their iPods.
Officers were concerned that the "iPod generation" was putting other road users at risk by operating iPods and other MP3 players while behind the wheel, the newspaper said.
Those found using the devices were to be prosecuted under existing road safety rules.
An Association of Chief Police Officers spokeswoman told the Telegraph: "Driving while using an iPod falls into the category of not being in proper control of a vehicle.
"This includes all forms of technological equipment, such as a sat nav, which can distract drivers."
