I still find it crazy how base horsepower has risen over the years. At the time, 275hp & 325 lb/ft was blazin. Now, that horsepower level is about the norm for a typical Honda Accord V6 or Toyota Camery V6 sedan.
The good thing is, the power levels are going up and the fuel economy is going up as well.

Indeed. I remember b/c Ford launched the Probe and Mazda the MX6 twin and it was FWD with a 164hp V-6 optional for THE SAME PRICE.
