“Nurburgring. Record Zonda R 6 ′ 47 ″, F599XX 6 ′ 58 ″. Thanks to all”. This is the signed message Horacio Pagani with which the Argentine confirmation officially the record seized to green Hell this morning to the dawn. Not draft of the better time on the turn obtained from an accredited car (that it remains still solid in the hands of the Radical), but of that fact to record from closely derived cars from track day from the world of the production. A category to part, dedicated to the stratosphere of the motors, verisoni the more exclusive rights of the faster cars of the world. This category hardly has been born and been inaugurated only little weeks ago from Ferrari F599XX. We have followed in exclusive right all the days in which Horacio Pagani, together to its staff, it has chased the turned out important; days of which we will give to you report complete on the next TopGear.

Thanks for sharing. This is really going to **** the boys in Maranello off. That says a lot about the Zonda.

ok but wait, the F599XX~ isnt it that car that the factory HOLDS for you to be used only a track? So its not really a true street car so why should its its time be considered a 'record'?

^ Neither is. Amazing for Zonda to out pace the 599xx by 11 (!!!omfg!!!) seconds, but neither are street legal cars, so kinda pointless.

IMO there should be 3 different records kept for the Nurburgring lap times:
1. street-legal production road cars
2. non-street-legal cars that are based on production road cars
3. pure race cars

The Zonda R and the F599XX belong to the #2 category, and their records are still somewhat meaningful because they are indications of what their road car counterparts can achieve when restrictions from the numerous road regulations and production feasibility are removed from the picture.

Anytime you go under 7 min is pretty damn impressive to me.

Whats even more impressive is the fact that this is a small manufacturer with a tiny R&D budget compared to say Ferrari, Lambo, or Porsche and they also don't invest in F1 or anything like that. Just a car guy building what he truly loves and look at what he does. I just have to love and respect Mr. Pagani and his team since they were able to go out and make this happen.

I still like the Radical SR8LM better. I might actually be able to afford one of those.

I honestly think that when it comes to the Ring, it more of a test for the driver than a car. With so many turns and twists, and other drivers on the track at the same time, it takes some skills and a pair of iron ***** to set such records. Sure, having a high performance machine helps, but its not the main factor.

I have to agree. The car is only half of the equation. Thats why they pay these race drivers thousands an hour
