Best advice on here. Take it from someone who does this everyday

How's that been working in Florida? In other words, how many dismissals versus convictions have you received?

It works differently in Florida. A couple of days after a traffic violation your mailbox is flooded with postcards from lawyers wanting to defend your case. It's usually around 45 bucks, or so. All you do is call them, give them the citation number and your credit card info. That's it. Sit back and they will do everything. You have about a 98% chance of getting your citation dismissed.
One caveat, you will be receiving a bill in the mail from the state of Florida for court costs. About $180.

IS350jet - Thanks for the Florida update, a "pay to play" approach to keeping record clean. The $180 in court costs is a small price to pay versus keeping record clean.

In CA in my lifetime I've shown up in court 3 times. 2 (of 3) resulted in no conviction and zero points on my record. The biggest cost was my time.

Same in GA, went 3-4, one fine on the loser. Police were no-shows

In WI, let go on 3 stops, no tickets...

Always good to maintain/monitor/manage your driving record, it's too important to leave to chance.

IS-SV, what did you plead when they asked you? Not guilty or no contest?

Not guilty. Every citation and situation should be evaluated separately.

Seriously, I have used this (from a friend at the GBI):
Window down, place hands on wheel at 2 and 10 o'clock, wait for him to ask you questions, when he/she asks for license, tell him you are going to remove your left/right hand from wheel to get it from _____.

Hands on wheel immediately puts them at ease, and stating what you are doing shows you have police procedure knowledge, giving you more opportunity to walk with a warning...
Why does rolling the windows down help? I would figure they would be worried about you pulling something out on them

Here's my favorite speeding-excuse story of all time:

A guy in a fast car wouldn't stop even after being pursued at high speed for some distance by a cop. When he finally DID stop, the cop asked him why he refused to stop earlier, even with clear flashing lights and siren.

The guy answered, "Fourteen years ago, my wife ran off with a cop. I thought you were trying to bring her back".

The officer said "Have a nice day, Sir", turned around, and drove off.

So that the approaching officer can see clearly inside the vehicle. He is able to see the driver clearly and what he is doing without reflections from the glass or tinted windows. It really puts the officer at ease. You may notice that when an officer approaches a car he's pulled over and he can't clearly see the driver, he'll have is hand on his weapon, ready for any surprises.

Not only that, but glass-tint darkness is strictly regulated in a number of states. You could (?) wind up with two tickets instead of one.
