Cool Incredible Finish to Saturday's Nationwide Series Scorcher

On a hot Saturday night in St. Louis, NASCAR's junior division, the Nationwide Series, provided action and controversy you'd expect in a Burt Reynolds comedy, as front runners Brad Keselowski and Carl Edwards provided the sweltering crowd with outstanding door handle to door handle racing through the final laps of the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250.

Keselowski and Edwards swapped paint, a few body parts, and seemingly traded PIT manuvers in turn 2 and again in the home stretch, Edwards finally turning Keslowski sideways with only yards to the finish to go on to the winner's circle. Meanwhile Keslowski crashed into the outside wall, threaded his way across traffic to a hard crash on the inside wall, where he was T-boned at speed by another car. Despite the horrific crash, the 22 car finished 14th, as he was bulldozed across the finish line by a back-marker. Incredibly, thanks to the safety standards of NASCAR, no one was seriously injured.

Up until the last five laps the race had been pretty ordinary, close racing with a few lead changes and minimal damage to sheet metal. But the claws came out in the final laps as the blood feud that has gone on between the two duelling drivers for the past four months reached a climax on Saturday night. A number of threats were issued by the righteously outranged Keslowski and his dad, but a look at the final lap shows he very nearly did the very same thing to Edwards in turn 2 of the final lap.

Upon review of the tapes, NASCAR has declared the incident(s) to be just hard racing, and did not assess penalties to either driver. The situation was the result of two extremely motivated and determined drivers doing everything in their power to get to the checker first - as written in their job descriptions. The Nationwide Series may not receive the notariety of the Sprint Cup, but there is some serious racing going on in the junior circuit. Stay tuned, they meet again at O'Reilly Park at Indianapolis next week.

Tip: These night races are carried live on ESPN in prime time, but are repeated at about 2am the following morning - set your DDR.

That was one wild race, Carl got out and basically said yeah I meant to wreck his @ss! This all started last year at Talledega when Brad sent Carl flying due to the yellow line rule and now defunct spoiler, both of these guys race Nationwide and Sprint Cup so two races against each other every weekend, stay tuned.
