Default McLaren F1 Crashes On German Autobahn

http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1...erman-autobahn
The McLaren F1 is considered by many to be one of the greatest cars of all time and to this day it’s still the fastest naturally aspirated production road car in the world.
With only 106 examples ever built, it’s also safe to say that the McLaren F1 is one of the rarest cars of the modern era. So it pains us to report that one of these rare beauties has come out a little worse for wear following a high speed accident, which took place Germany's A48 autobahn last week.
According to local authorities, the bright blue McLaren F1 was speeding down the stretch of autobahn when it suddenly swerved to avoid slow moving traffic and ending up clipping two parked cars. The maneuver looked to have saved the car from complete annihilation but the damage seen here, although not appearing to be too drastic, is still estimated to cost upwards of $130,000 to repair.
Police have taken details, and the driver is currently being investigated for driving without due care and attention. Fortunately, no-one was injured during the accident.

That's probably my favorite car I always thought the center driver seat was an awesome idea.

It's a huge shame every time an F1 is damaged or wrecked. Even less of them now in the world.

My favorite car too. Why would there be parked cars on the Autobahn?

I wouldnt say one less one on the road, as the cost to repair is far less than what it would cost the insurance company to total it out. As has been done with previously damaged F1's it will be sent back to Mclaren and will be repaired appropriately.

The article didn't say whether this was one of the Autobahn stretches with or without a speed limit...and some sections have a variable limit posted on overhead signs, depending on local traffic/road conditions.

Limitless speeds, of course, only increase the possible severity of accidents when a car either goes out of control or has to suddenly deal with much-slower-moving (or stopped) traffic. In this case, though, it doesn't look like the McLaren was going that fast......the damage is limited to only one front corner

Traffic these days on the autobahns is very heavy, especially during the day. Plus, there's always the danger of crashing into a slower car in front of you that suddenly just pulled out of the slow lane to overtake an even slower car.

People have to stay out of the high speed lane.

The others should be at fault.

These Mc Larens make an Enzo look common. Its disturbing when stuff like this happens. They are literally destroying automotive history. The Mc Laren is still the fastest normally aspirated vehicle of all time

If it were the LM model, I would agree. But this will just be history with a small scab.

Totally the slow moving cars' fault.

if there are only 106 of these cars this is still a decent loss. To drive the LM on the street would be foolish imho. I would keep it in the garage and car shows only
