Rumormill: Mercedes planning C63 AMG Coupe

It's been confirmed for some time that Mercedes-Benz is developing a new two-door coupe version of its C-Class to replace the current hatchback CLC model. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Autocar is reporting that Mercedes-Benz is also working on an AMG variant of the coupe to go up against the Audi RS5, BMW M3 and Cadillac CTS-V.

The British magazine is reporting that the coupe will use the same AMG 6.2-liter normally aspirated V8 as one of our favorite Benz sedans, the C63 AMG. However, if this car is to debut later in 2011 as projected, it would seem logical that Mercedes might switch to the new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 that's going into the 2011 CL63.

The turbo V8 could the output from the current 451 horsepower to somewhere closer to 500 hp. Autocar also speculates that a C63 Black Series coupe could be a followup to an upcoming SLS Black Series.

Why would they make a C-class coupe AMG and not an E-coupe AMG? That car is begging for that twin turbo V8 engine.

 

Because the E-coupe is built on the old C-class chassis, its probably weaker than the current C-class chassis.

 

C'mon Lexus! When are you going to join the party with an IS F coupe or at least a regular IS coupe??

MB will need a niche between a C63 AMG coupe and CL63 AMG...

 

Meh. It seems ok, but if 2 doors is your choice there are better cars available. I'd rock a GT-R or Z06 long before this (or an M3 coupe).

I do hope the SLK63 gets released. Now thats going to be a beast. Thats if they can shed a ton of weight.

Yeah this is right. So technically they already have a C-class coupe No different than the M37/56 sharing its platform with a cheaper 370Z etc.

Most consumers don't know these things and fanbois gloss over them

I wonder how much bashing Lexus would get if the GS was based off the FT-86 or the SC was based on the MR2 lol

 

They actually confirmed that they wouldn't be making the E63 coupe and it makes sense now that they're going to be releasing a C63 coupe.
