Ooo, what a scary event. Keep us in the loop on this.
I was surprised when I bought my car (off autotrader) the owner handed me the keys and said come back when you're done...I couldve left with it.

986ci - Sorry about the incident and glad you are ok.
I'll wait to hear outcome, after investigation and arrests are done.
(btw, does the 986 in name relate to Porsche Boxster engineering code name?)

Some years ago, a similiar event happened to an old friend of mine, though not through a buying service. He was buying public-auction cars and re-selling them privately to try and make a profit (you can only do that a few times each year, of course, without having an auto-sales license). Against my recommendation, he didn't even bother to get insurance for them.
A young man came to his house, test-drove a Maxima he had for sale, and, while they were exchanging driver/passenger seats, sped off.

I would definitely have someone else with me when selling or buying a car on craigslist. Whenever I sell something on there, I always meet up a local gas station at a time when it's usually got quite a few people there, and is well lit. The more witnesses the better.
Glad you got your car back though.

Test drives are always sketchy things, when i test drove a 1999 es300 the elderly couple both came outside to great me, and just gave me the key and said drive around for 15 minutes then come back, i was shocked, keep in mind this car was posted on craigslist also so the same thing that happened to you, could have even more easily happened to them. Just glad you are ok and got your car back

Yep this happens all the time. Sorry to hear it happened, glad it wasn't at gunpoint.
I ask for Driver's license/insurance when selling. I mention that before they come. Plus I'm ready with a friend and/or protection (legally).

I buy and sell a lot of stuff on Craigslist (including cars). I usually am a buyer, but that gives me even more risk as I have cash.
My Craigslist Rules.
I always meet at a QuikTrip (very well lit/busy gas station). If you do not want to meet at a QuikTrip then sorry, no deal.
Never meet at a home, if you are buying furniture you cant really avoid this.
Never allow someone to meet you at your home.
Bring a friend if you can, I have 3 roommates, usually one will go with.
I always reverse search the other party, I usually check to see if they have a Facebook using their email/phone number. You can find a lot about someone via their Facebook.
I always carry at least one of the below guns on me, usually I have the .40 in the car and the baby .380 with laser on me In AZ I can Conceal and the other party will never know.

Keep us updated. Was there any damage to the car? You should also file assault charges if you haven't yet.

Now i'm out for blood, the guy that took it owns a mechanic shop and we had some bad blood between us, he made up a work order and used that to repo the car, I've had to provide proof the car wasn't at his shop and evidently it wasn't enough to satisfy the detective so the detective set it for a magistrate hearing which could take up to 3-4 months. In the mean time i'm paying my loan and my car is sitting in impound and now I'm with out a car.
