Post VW says diesel hybrids don't make business sense

http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsAr...aspx?AR=251753

“Diesel hybrids still don’t make good business sense,” said a VW spokesman. “The higher cost of clean diesel technology would make them even more expensive than petrol-electric cars. The markets where hybrids are most popular are also the ones where diesels are least popular.”

Thank you Captain Obvious, erm I mean VW spokesperson .

I'd love to see what the Toyota haters say to this, the haters that criticized Toyota for not making a diesel hybrid car .

Yes, but the extremely high-MPG that these vehicles would get would, over time, offset a lot of that higher price for the owner.

That's because, in America, the media, celebrities, and environmentalists have glorified hybrids to no end, especially the Prius. A lot of people have fallen for it.

Americans don't keep their cars. However, the bluebook on our 400h is $24,125 where a 350 with the exact same features would be $21,400. So it is not like you are losing out by trading it in. It cost more to buy, it's still worth more and you saved the gas and maintence bills.

Perhaps a diesel-hybrid luxury vehicle would work. The luxury buyer presumably has more money to spend on a premium. Not to mention a large majority of luxury car buyers spend the extra money on such a car to run it for a long time.

I'd still rock a diesel hybrid. How about a hydrogen-hybrid?
