It must not be forgotten, though, that Honda gave the auto industry a fair amount of the technology the industry uses today. They developed the VVTi variable-valve technology through their Formula 1 program. They introduced the first gas-electric hybrid (a series-hybrid, not a parallel one) to the American market in 2000, beating the Prius by some 7-8 months (though both cars had already been on sale in Japan). And, today, they will (probably) be the first company to release a hydrogen/fuel-cell vehicle, the FCX, to the general public. True, we don't have adequate compressed-hydrogen refuelling facilities yet, but that isn't Honda's fault.

Exactly the point, most of those accomplishments are ancient by industry standards today (year 2010) and the more recent ones have not been proven to be ecomically viable/profitable. Not good signs of a progressive company delivering latest automotive technlogy today.
As I said earlier, the competition is delivering the new and proven technology now.

Not worth remembering (even if I'm old enough to remember), since those ancient accomplishments mean little today.
