Have you ever seen someone clean their entire car with a squeegee at the gas station?
I saw it once years ago and it happened again tonight. Huge older Grand Marquis getting gas and the owner is cleaning the car with the squeegee. Fenders, wheels, windows, everything.
Detailing is not my bag so I'm not sure if this is that bad of a thing. I assume the windex is an abrasive on the paint? Maybe the guy doesn't care?
Anyone else seen this?

ive seen an owner of a smart car squeegee his car completely, except down to the wheels. kinda strange, but he just kept re-dipping it into the water tray and it looked pretty decent for just a squeegee. the funny thing was that there was an automated car wash literally right next to his pump. maybe he was in a rush?

Sounds like the owner doesnt know about clear coat scratches. Its not the correct way to clean but if you drive a Marquis you probably dont care about scratches

I'll admit, I once cleaned off cat spray/urine off my bumper with one of those. Not really related, but this was the same station that skimmed my card and sold my number to some toothless fool in the desert who bought $900 worth of beer in six days.

all the time it's actually a pretty common method of cleaning,
but I gotta say, Im kinda impressed by the car owners who get the people working at the gas station with the no water cleaners to practically clean their entire car

Squeegee should only ever be used to dry a car off that is already cleaned or clean the glass of a car.
Problem with a squeegee is that the grime on your paint won't just glide over your car using a squeegee. You're just dragging the grime over your paint which will cause scratches. A clean car that is wet can be squeegeed to push the water off the car for a streak free finish.
I don't recommend even using a squeegee for drying a car off. Too much risk, even the smallest amount of dirt on the car or on the blade could cause paint damage. I only use the squeegee on the glass of my car and only when I can't properly clean it and it's inhibiting my vision.
