Default Lotus accidentally confirms Evora automatic and S variants for Paris through email

Lotus accidentally confirms Evora automatic and S variants for Paris through email snafu

Lotus seems to have quite a hit on its hands in the form of the Evora. We were quite taken with it ourselves when given the chance to put the car through its paces in Southern California, and we've yet to hear a nasty word uttered in its general direction. But that doesn't mean Lotus can't find a way to improve the breed yet further.

Apparently, a couple of those improvements are headed to the Paris Motor Show later this year. Buried within the automaker's stand will be both a hotted-up S version of the Evora and one bestowed with an automatic transmission. How do we know? Well, an errant email recently went out to everyone on Lotus' media list (ourselves included) that promised the two machines along with the other "new car(s) not yet announced."

As if the thought of a Lotus Evora S (forced induction?) and an automatic for the clutch averse among you wasn't enough, it seems the British specialists have plenty more up their well-tailored sleeves. There's been plenty of postulation regarding what else we may see – most notably the rumored return of the Esprit – but we're content to just take a wait-and-see attitude on this one. Paris just can't come soon enough.

Interesting.. wonder if this can be retrofitted to an ES or Camry

The bigger question is how much will its performance be tweaked? If Lotus follows the path it took with S versions of the Elise and Exige, the Evora S will feature a supercharger mounted to its Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V-6. Exactly how much this will boost power has not yet been revealed, but with the standard Evora producing 276 bhp, you can bet the forced-induction S will have in the neighborhood of 325-350 bhp.

Well TRD already made a 323hp supercharged 2GR-FZE 3.5L for the Aurion back in 2007. What the Carmy V6 needs from Lotus is the 6-speed manual.

Default Lotus Evora S Gets 345-hp

Lotus Evora S Makes 345-Horsepower; Evora IPS Gets Automatic with Paddle Shifters | AutoGuide.com News

Lotus has just officially confirmed the Evora S and IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) automatic transmission models, both of which are set to debut at the Paris Auto Show in just a few weeks time.

Most exciting is the Evora S with a 350-ps (345-hp) V6 engine. Details are scarce, but it would seem from the official press release that all this power from the same 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 276-hp in the standard Evora comes without a supercharger as suspected. Instead it looks as though the Lotus partnership with Cosworth has lead to an impressive power increase for the Toyota-sourced V6.

Along with 345-hp, the Evora S also get a Sport button that adjusts the throttle response, increases the rev limit and changes the stability control program for a more sport-oriented experience. In addition, it also activates an exhaust bypass valve that gives the Evora a race-inspired exhaust note.

In addition to the Evora S, Lotus will also unveil the Evora IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) model in Paris. Using a six-speed automatic transmission (likely from Toyota), Lotus has developed its own transmission control unit to deliver quick shifts for the 276-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine.

Both models will help Lotus expand its reach in the marketplace, with the Evora S attracting higher dollar customers (though fewer of them), while the Evora IPS model will appeal to a wider range of buyers, particularly in North America.

Speaking about the automatic transmission model, Lotus ECO Dany Bahar commented that, “The Evora IPS is set to broaden the appeal of the Evora and reach out to a slightly different market. We hope it will be popular with established automatic locations such as Asia, the Middle East and the U.S. It’s been a long time since Lotus created an automatic and we’ve spent a great deal of time refining this one to make sure that it perfectly complements the Evora drive experience.”

354HP from this car? It weighs what 3000lbs? It's a bit heavy for a Lotus but it's still a great looking car. I've always liked Lotus cars. This one looks the best so far.

wonder why the S version doesn't get a tuned (or stroked) version of the 2GR-FSE? Would be lighter than a blown version and longer durability as well...

Are those the wheels from a BMW Z4?

This car looks AWESOME and is going to be a lot of fun, just wondering what kind of premium we'll have to pay

wonder if they should've just dropped in an IS350 engine and tune it, unless they wanted more torque

I'm pretty sure Lotus doesn't use the FSE engine because it can't be mounted transversely.
