Although quite a jump in price, this is exactly what BMW did in 2004 when they brought out the 330ci ZHP. List on those, however, was only $46k.

To me, the ZHP is arguably the most beautiful BMW ever produced. It came from BMW looking PERFECT with NO mods needed to enhance it's stunning looks.

After a nice 6-year stint in federal prison for deciding it would be a smart idea to import Ecstasy into the country for about 4 years, it was the first car I purchased in 2007 when I got out.

Enjoy the pics of mine...I sold it last year.

Yup!

Love the Alcantra M- steering wheel.....the machined (real) aluminum trim....the M- wheels....

It was essentially an M3 without the engine (and the drop in gas mileage).

One of the most incredible cars I have ever owned. I sold it because after buying the Ferrari I drove the ZHP a little over 3k miles in 9 months. Therefore, I had to sell her as I already had another DD I was driving.

The 335is is a cool car, but it's not 60 grand worth of cool. I say that as a former owner of a 335i sedan that stickered at 47.x. I already thought that was ridiculous. I'm looking at what this car has that my car didn't and I'm not seeing 12.5 grand more car.

60 grand is Cadillac CTS-V money... coupe or sedan. Sorry but I'd be all over the CTS-V long before the 335is. More comfortable, nicer interior with better materials and FAR more space, better handling and so much more power that it's not even a comparison.

Just to give you guys someone's perspective who was in the market for a new M3 in 2008.

I decided that I was going to buy myself something nice in 2008. I immediately went to test-drive the all-new M3. Sticker on the one I drove was almost fully-optioned and was about $70k.

So, I drove it. The dealer took me way out into the country to a loop that is probably 3-4 miles long--it was the road to the dump.

He told me to drive it how it was meant to be driven. And, by golly, I did. And guess what...?

It was hella fast and cornered like you wouldn't believe!!!

Did I buy it?

Nope.

Anyone wanna guess why...?

Although it is an amazing piece of German engineering and was a very beautiful car, I didn't feel like I was driving a $70k car.

So, I then looked at 2002 NSX.....

Ended up buying a 1999 Ferrari F355 Spider F1 because it actually gave me the chills when I started the engine and pulled away in first gear. I can't even begin to describe the emotions I feel every time I drive it.

I don't think I would ever get that feeling in a new M3...

Sure, the M3 has a warranty, blah, blah, blah....yeah, the Ferrari has cost me about $21k in maintenance and performance upgrades (new racing cats, headers, exhaust, etc)....but the thrill alone of the Prancing Pony and those 8 cylinders of the Italian Symphony make it worth every penny!!!

That's a hard way to learn your lesson with drugs and keep your nose clean (some people don't even survive prison), but I'm glad things worked out for you. Now you have the rest of your life ahead of you.

You made a wise purchase, IMO. Though they have had some fuel-pump and electerical/hardware issues, It's hard to beat the 330/335 as a excellent, daily-driver sport coupe/sedan (though the M3 is better on the track). Though BMWs are generally not the cars for me, if I was buying one, I'd probably choose the 335 myself, particularly the xi AWD version.

Since you sold it, what did you replace it with?

I didn't replace it with anything....just kept driving my 2007 Civic as a DD since I drive about 35k miles/yr for work.

Sold the Civic in June with 90k miles on it and bought a 2010 IS250 AWD (NAV) with Optional G-Spiders. Gonna use it for 3-4 years and then sell it at 100k miles.

The ZHP was a great 3 series. I remember reading in Bimmer years ago and they said it was the best 3 series at the time and one of the all time greats.

IMO, the reason why many consider 335is to be the best all around 3 series is related to the mediocre "bang for the buck", wasn't a top consideration during the final design and configuration work. Yes it's expensive in this class.

A friend of mine has a twin turbo 335i and that car is very quick. The twin turbos start boosting like at 1800 RPM's. With a little bit of mods a 335i could easily beat an M3.

Some people like the DCT.

People pay closer to invoice than sticker these days though.
