German Car Magazine Autobild Ranks Hyundai #1 In Quality
![](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2771/4503938660_a327817dde_z.jpg)
"Hyundai edged out BMW and Audi in leading German car magazine Autobild’s annual quality survey. Hyundai also beat out Toyota, long considered the benchmark for quality and reliability.
Using owner feedback, recall information and data from Germany’s well known TUV technical inspection agency, the magazine’s yearly report is held in high regard in Europe."

I knew Hyundai was improving fast but I didn't know they were this good already.

My dad's Veracruz interior is no Audi interior. Not even close. Don't know where they get these stats from.

The topic of this thread and the article are rather mis-leading. But, I will still take my Lexus over said Hyundai. As a matter of fact, I'd like take a MB, BMW, and Audi over a Hyundai.
The article doesn't do anything for me, although it is good to see Hyundai quality is finally increasing.

Its not even a close race. If you want to magically add Kia and Hyundai they outsell Toyota/Lexus but that is two econo cars to one and no luxury cars so they should sell more added up.

What is of interest since I am interested more in aspirational vehicles and not econo cars is the Panamera beat the 7 series in sales in Germany last month.

Yeah, your data is from 2009. Mine is 2010:
http://www.samar.pl/__/__la/en/__ac/...-after-H1.html
With 35,941 registrations in H1 2010, Hyundai was the top-selling Asian brand in Germany’s new-car market with 35,941 units. As a result, Hyundai secured a market share of 2.45%.
The H1 2010 sales performance does not compare favourably against the figures reported by Hyundai during H1 2009, but it should be noted that last year German buyers rushed to buy new models following the introduction of scrapping incentives worth EUR 2,500. However, the scheme ran out of money last September, resulting in a significant drop in demand for the whole industry shortly afterwards.
However, Hyundai is happy to announce that the H1 2010 tally is up by almost 50% against the supply during H1 2008.
These are the top-selling Asian brands in the German new-car market after H1 2010:
- Hyundai: 35,941 units
- Toyota/Lexus: 35,410 units
- Nissan/Infiniti: 30,302 units
- Mazda: 24,433 units
- Suzuki: 16,248 units

How is it BMW and Audi are usually average to below average in the reliability surveys we have over here, but are apparently fighting for top honors in the survey they have over there?
Then again the saying '#1 in quality' is barely any more meaningful than saying '#1 in awesomeness'... until we define what metrics were used.

You know, the polite response would be to own up to your mistake/misunderstanding, instead of storming off in a huff. I only mention this because this isn't the first time.

Here is the source for the OP's article, which has a fuller discussion of the criteria they used:
Leading German motoring magazine AutoBild, has awarded Hyundai Motor Company the honor of first-place in its annual AutoBild Quality Report for 2010.
Hyundai edged out local manufacturers BMW and Audi, and eclipsed its rival Toyota to take the prestigious award based on a comprehensive analysis of reliability, long-term quality and customer satisfaction.
AutoBild's annual list evaluates seven key criteria, each weighted equally, including feedback received from 9278 owners, manufacturer warranty provisioning, recall information, and data from Germany's Technische Uberwachung Verein report (TÜV) based on no less than 7.5 million vehicle inspections.
Considered by many to be one of the most respected industry quality surveys, and endorsed by a fastidious German audience, the award further demonstrates the gains Hyundai has made in consistently improving the quality of its products, service and support available to its owners.
“Hyundai is always proud to receive awards for its products, particularly this one from AutoBild, which places the company ahead of brands many have considered to be at the pinnacle of the industry.” said Hyundai Motor Company Marketing Director Oliver Mann.
Hyundai’s star continues to rise elsewhere in Europe with British magazine Motor Trader naming Hyundai as the Car Franchise of the Year in its annual Motor Trader Industry Awards. Also in the UK, the i30 recently took first place in the Driver Power Top 100 survey, a customer satisfaction survey conducted by the best-selling Auto Express magazine – confirming the findings of UK’s Which? consumer guide whose subscribers revealed i30 to be Britain’s most reliable medium-sized car.
