They need to get rid of the live axle rear end in these unless they are going to be just straight line cars.

Maybe you should read up and notice, the 2011 GT500 was less than 4 tenth's of a second off of the Corvette Zo6 times around VIR. I think they have the solid axle dialed in pretty well, And even further so on the Boss 302 and 302R Laguna Seca model

Pretty amazing if you're gonna mass produce these for enthusiasts...

If that is the case what do you suppose it would be with IRS?

Besides, "Ford is planning an independent rear suspension (IRS) for the next-generation Mustang. Due out in 2014, this next model will celebrate 50 years of the iconic pony car."

Wonder why they are going to IRS, "Maybe you should read up and notice"?

They've done an IRS before in the '03-'04 Cobra and while it did improve handling it also suffered from wheel hop. Easily cured by some aftermarket components. I dont disagree with you that a IRS in the rear would be a great improvement over the live axle they have back there now. But the live axle was chosen purely because of cost. Remember the automaker was battling for survival not that long ago. Never the less they have done a great job getting the car to handle with the live rear. An irs will be a welcomed change but like i said the car hoofs around a track pretty well with what it has back there now.

I agree, and have owned quite a few over the years from 67 to 88, then switched to Vettes.

There was a tuner in ATL (Modular Performance) back around 2000 that tore the rear axle right off the car at 850HP and now we are at 1,000 HP...

In the recent test where it did great against the M3, was it live or IRS?

Correct me if I am wrong.

2011 Shelby Mustang GT500 uses live rear axle
2012 Ford Boss Mustang 302 uses independent rear suspension
2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 uses live rear axle (comparable to the BMW M3)
2014 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 uses independent rear suspension

The Chevy Corvette is a two seated and alot lighter than the four seated 2011 Shelby Mustang GT500; thus, it is difficult to compare the two because of weight.

The 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 is a good comparison to the BMW M3. 2012 Ford Boss 302 Mustang (independent rear suspension) is 2 second faster than the BMW M3 or 2011 Mustang 5.0. Imagine the 2014 Ford Mustang 5.0 with 2010 Ford Boss 302 horsepower & Independence rear suspension smoking the current gen BMW M3 with half the price. Next up 2014 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 (or 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 HP + IRS) vs next gen BMW M3.
I have always own Japanese cars, but if I am buying domestic, the new Ford Mustang will be my top choice.
