Default Lincoln MKT

I just saw one on the road this morning.
Not a fan but I will say it's a SUV/crossover vehicle that is not a 'chick car' like my RX that I drive.
It's up there with the Range Rover Sport and Cayenne.

Agree that it looks beefier than the RX but that's not too hard.

So, what makes the RX a so-called "Chick car"? I see plenty of males driving them, both old and young.

Some of you have complained about Lincoln's "alphabet soup" vehicle naming, with several of their vehicles starting with "MK". I'll try and make it simple for you here.....copy these down and add them to your "favorites" file for reference:

The MKT...thread topic, their mid-line SUV, based on the Ford Flex platform:

The MKX...the entry-level SUV model, based on the Ford Edge:

The MKS....the sedan flagship, based on the Ford Taurus platform:

The MKZ (formerly Zephyr)...the entry-level sedan, based on the Ford Fusion platform:

C'mon Mike,it's the Miata of the SUV/crossover vehicle.

So? For that matter, plenty of males drive Miatas, too. In fact, a well-respected (male) CL moderator owns one....and loves it.

Well, once again, the IS250 AWD sells like hotcakes around here....to both male and female. In fact, though I don't have hard-data figures for local sales, the AWD version seems to handily outsell the regular 250 and 350. The vast majority of those I see daily are AWDs.

Now.....................go ahead and try to and tell me that the Hummer H1 is a "chick car".

Funny but it isn't.
RAV4,CRV,minivans as well as other vehicles are in the 'chick car' catagory.

The sad fact that somebody has to explain the stupid Lincoln naming convention to enthusiasts tells a story in itself (a story of lame marketing effort and some badge engineering too).

MKT sales are very poor which comes as no surprise to me. I like lux SUV's and this one (even at the huge discounts available to me) has little appeal.

OK....call them anything you want. Not worth arguing about.

Agreed, has little automotive content and deals too much with stereotyping.

I find some of the the alphabet-soup Cadillac and Acura names confusing, too, but, as you have pointed out in the past, at least many of them (not all) don't all start with the same letter.

The MKT's main problem, as I see it, is the exterior styling. Here's an example of "Badge Engineering" actually in reverse. Instead of doing a more-conservative, squared-off, badge-design like the Ford Flex it's based on, Lincoln, while doing admittedly a nice interior, chose to give it (and I've used these terms before) a grille that looks like a grinning teen-ager displaying a new set of teeth-braces, and a rear-end that looks like a Chrysler PT-Cruiser with full-width taillights. Not the kind of stuff that, at least currently, seems to be appealing to a lot of prospective buyers. Of course, the smiley-brace grille seems to be a Lincoln styling theme now, just as with the oversized Audi and Buick-waterfall grilles.

The MKT looks great - except for the front end and the back end. I don't care for Lincoln's current styling theme.
