Driving somewhat aggressively, I get about 22-23 MPG in my Cayman S with PDK. And I check that with each fill-up as I don't trust the on-board computer. I love hearing the snarl as it revs up almost as much as the rumble from the IS F at 3500 RPM.

^^^ Porsche = great technology. Their MPG is superb for such high power/sporty vehicles. I've read near 30 MPG with PDK in 911s on the highway cruising!

Of the three, I 'd choose the Cayman as well. I never really *got* it until I sat in one and drove it, but it really has a special feeling to it. The mid engine right behind you in the small coupe shell gives it a very hardcore sports car feel.

That said, it's hard to justify spending 78k on a car that's been purposely depowered so it won't step on the 911's toes, especially considering what else you can get for 78k...

New: Cayman S, Boxster Spyder, Z06, M3, Shelby Cobra GT500, S5 convert, C63AMG, IS-F.... missing any?

Pre-owned: too many to list

MY final 3 are represented in this thread....

I'm starting to crack myself up on my own posts ... love CL

I mean if we're talking around the 80k range, the GT-R eats everything up and certainly stomps on the Cayman all over the place...

Agree... but not a GT-R fan and Godzilla is a different world from a Cayman...

... and if we go BOT, hard to beat a Spyder... unless it's a Cayman S... I'd like to drive them back-to-back but my dealer doesn't have any Spyders right now and really pushing on the Cayman S... sad right

I know, it's just hard for me to spend 80k on a car that is essentially a 60k car with 20k worth of options. I'd rather spend 80k that's 80k worth of car. But, that's Porsche for you.

nice weight reduction although absurd price.

and what's with the 'tent' roof attachments at back?

i'd take boxster S over this every day.

caymen's nice, but no substitute for the fun of top down driving.

Love it, and btw, C&D chose it as the best handling car in a 7-car test in the current issue ...

One thing I forgot to comment on is that the Boxster Spyder comes with the PDK option despite it being a "hardcore"-intentioned car. I think that bodes well for PDK eventually getting to the GT3 series in the 998/991 cycle (many GT3/RS enthusiasts maintained that Porsche wouldn't bring PDK to the GT3/RS for "purity" reasons and that engine incompatibility had nothing to do with it, something that I've always thought was false).

I dunno, I think the Cayman S is the best value sportscar available right now. I'd certainly take it over a Z06, GTR, M3 or any of the other sport sedans.

Drove 911, Boxster Spyder and Cayman S back-to-back-to-back yesterday (street), PDK in both, Cayman hands down, set-up is PERFECT!! And Boxster with top up, as IS-SV mentioned... is .... akward...

Also tested a light-optioned 2011 M3 for $64K (no competition package).... heaven... and more space in the M although the M and Cayman' seating were about perfect. The Cayman has better feel on the street, M rides better. Difference is M3 feels like you can thrash it all day while Cayman is more "elegant" on the street, the M more of a "brute".

Either, utterly phenomenal ... don't know how M3 did not rate higher in best driving cars for under $100K

If rains holds off today, driving Shelby GT500 without SVT package... already know Z06 well, awesome car.

Any car on this list... is ... a ... WINNER!!!!

Price it out in the real world like I did. That $80K car will sell for close to $60K.

The Cayman S/Boxster S absolutely destroy other cars in terms of handling. Look at any of the comparisons in the past few years. They win every time. No matter how hard I push it, I always feel I could push my car a little bit more and it wouldn't mind.

Pretty bizarre they make all these "track" claims and yet no HPDE or racing sanctioning body will let you on the track with it as it comes from Porsche. No roll bar...

Looks like a pretty neat ride though, and I have a tremendous respect for Porsche cars especially after riding in a few at the track.
