As these gen y people grow older, situation might change. They would spend more and more money on cars. Don't worry automakers, they won't stay in love with video games and ipod forever. Eventually they would love what the current older people love: women/men, house, cars, power, politics, wine.

Let me go further. In the past, the car was your way OUT, your way to FREEDOM. Your car represented you or another side of you.

With the internet people have that freedom at home. The no longer need a car to be "out". People rather be on the computer for days on end instead of out and about.

I've seen it firsthand. The first generation of people at meets in Atlanta would always come out. Now its like pulling teeth. Something changed.
You make a very solid case with the internet... and even today's games. Back in the late 90's, very early 2000's, car meets were everywhere. But at some point around 2003-2005, things changed quite a bit. I think you could argue that internet/home gaming really started making people feel like they had their freedom while staying at home.

Good thing- less cars on the road!

Very bad thing- contempt/ dislike for cars will effect future laws and will make it harder to be a car lover.. The damaging the enviorment stuff is such BS, today's cars hardly emit anything at all.

And, of course, just what do we ourselves do here, every day, on CAR CHAT and the Internet?
