Nice looking car, minus the darth vader pinched center console.

I too think there is little room for this car in Hyundai's line-up. You've got the Sonata, Genesis, and Equus already. Not too many bread and butter car makers squeeze in this many models. I rather see the brand put their resources elsewhere.

But Toyota also has the Camry, Avalon, ES and GS. The Avalon and ES overlap significantly yet they both continue to do well even with them being long in the tooth. Sure Hyundai doesn't have a luxury brand but as of now they are still doing rather well with the Equus and Genesis both of which will see a raise in pricing upon new generations due within the next 3 years(this complete by the time their new compact RWD entry lux sedan comes out.)

Interior shot:

I love how they designed the interior as it invokes a great sense of luxury even though it's just a mainstream full-size sedan.

I wonder if there is any chance Hyundai will market the new Azerza as a Genesis as their ES competition?

Yes there is. Not everyone (including me) likes the styling of the new Elantra or Sonata, which I think is ridiculous. And not everyone wants RWD either, like there is on the Genesis. So, for the time being,, there is still a place for the Azera

Hyundai did state that they are targeting the Buick Lacrosse which is a direct Lexus ES competitor. I still wouldn't bet that they would place it under the Genesis subname however.

I think your examples of Toyota and Lexus products not overlapping is due to the fact it's two different brands sold in two different showrooms. Hyundai just has one brand, and squeezing in all these models is a stretch. They should have branched out with Genesis as a seperate line if they were going to do so many higher end cars.

Am I the only one that doesn't like blue ambient lighting that you see on a lot of new cars now? Ford seems to love it. Sure it looks modern and clean, but the color is actually very hard on the eyes at night.

Otherwise, that is a fantastic looking cabin. A lot of very nice details that are pretty luxurious looking. I wonder how it all feels. I can't wait for real world photos of it.

It's just like saying why purchase an ES with the Avalon and Camry around?

They should have but they havent. At this point they probably don't even need to create a brand rather than a sub brand like Land Rover is doing for their Range Rover sub brand. Land Rover is focused on off road while Range Rover focuses on luxury.
