September 2010 Sales Thread

AUGUST:
Lexus-145,490
Mercedes-139,867
BMW-139,236
SEPTEMBER:
Lexus - 162,438
Mercedes - 159,729
BMW - 157,464
Over a one month span, Mercedes went from being 5,600 units behind Lexus to just 2,700 for September. If they can pull of another month like that, they'll be in the top spot.
The rest of 2010 will be interesting, and at this point, I think it's anyone's game.

The race is definitely a heated one for the title of top-selling luxury brand in the United States.
The lead now belongs to Mercedes-Benz which surpassed the usual leader Lexus by outselling the Japanese brand in the month of September and now leading in 2010 premium sales overall.
Sales of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, including the Sprinter van, are up 22 percent year-to-date for a total of 165,427 units. Lexus sales have risen a more modest 9 percent with 162,438 units sold so far this year through the end of September. BMW has also seen a 9 percent rise in its sales this year, selling 157,464 units in the same 9-month period. Overall, auto industry sales in the United States have been up 10 percent for the 9-month period in 2010.
But it's still a close race - Lexus had led Mercedes-Benz through the end of August by a mere 737 units.
"Lexus has been by far the luxury leader in this market and now Mercedes and BMW have closed that gap pretty rapidly," said Joe Barker, an auto industry analyst from IHS Automotive.

^I knew that was the case when I saw that number yesterday - I still think my number above is the correct one for Mercedes Benz-branded products.
If we're including Sprinter, should we just throw Toyota and Scion into Lexus' numbers as well?

I find it interesting how the 5 and 7 were both flat, but the 3 was way up. The Sept 09 numbers were the old 5 and 7, correct?
Crazy stuff going on at MB - M and GL are way up despite their age, GLK is solid and E is selling like the 5 O'Clock free crack give away!

In case anyone forgot, E class also includes coupe sales which is also selling very well. MB has a good product with the E.
What's shocking to me is that they sold 1700 S classes while the others sold at most around 700. Lol

That is interesting, I wonder why S-Class sales were so high for the month?
Also not sure why anyone is surprised by Lexus Canada sales. Canada is a different market. People here love a lot of silly and pointless small cars. Acura in Canada sells the CSX, which is a rebadged Civic! I don't think you can compare Acura and Lexus sales in Canada. Canadian consumers seem to really like luxury or near-luxury compact cars. The CT should do well in Canada and help Lexus sales.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE ***** OF GNATS AND MOSQUITOS
I think what I will do to avoid confrontation next month is put the Infiniti "M" in a new category with the real BMW "M's" where it will outsell the BMW's M's and there will finally be peace on Earth.
