35.5mpg has already been surpassed....car makers don't want to put more needless development $$$ into a car to keep profits as high as possible....unless someone requires them too.


its the exactly the same with safety requirements..."seat belts? why the hell should the government mandate seat belt usage...they shouldn't be mandatory"!! LOL

true about rail not being the 100% solution, but I think it should/could be utilized more;.....and as you say...a train will never be puling up to your local supermarket, mall etc....so intrastate makes more sense the interstate.
