Ford owners may want to check their paint jobs

I found this story which was interesting and could be troubling for some 2000-2007 Ford owners. This ladies Ford Expedition that is only a little over four years old needs a new paint job due to bubbling, cracking, and peeling of paint. It appears there was a issue at the factory of iron contamination of the primer that will not allow paint/primer to bond properly to aluminum panels, like the hoods and trunks. A simple repaint will not fix it and estimates are at over $4000.00 to fix it. Even though Ford sent out a memo about this to dealers/body repair and appears to have known about it they are refusing to paint this lady's and other people's cars after the 4 year warranty(I would think this could be covered under extended rust warranties).
If anyone owns a Ford from 2000-2007 like Explorers, Expeditions, Mustangs, Taurus, Crown Victoria's, etc I would thoroughly examine any aluminum body panels for any signs of bubbling, flaking, or peeling and if under warranty get fixed right away or if out of warranty complain and make a case against Ford because it may be extremely expensive to fix.

didn't know there were any aluminum panels on these kind of vehicles.

I did not think Ford or most makers used much aluminum on lower priced/bigger selling vehicles either but even though it is more expensive it is pretty common for manufactures to use aluminum in hoods, trunks, engines, suspension bits, etc, to reduce some weight.
