have you ever got a little revenge for someone dinging the crap out of your car in a parking lot? I've done it once where paint from my door was still on the huge 90's camaro door next to me

No, because if every one of us are honest, we've (probably) done the same thing ourselves once or twice, inadvertantly.
The best things to do, if possible, is either park away from other vehicles and walk a little, and hope that the spaces in between don't fill up, or simply get a car with well-designed body mouldings that will help prevent it as much as possible. I usually make it a standard part of my auto reviews to point out which vehicles have them and which don't...and how well those mouldings are designed/mounted. Unfortunately, a lot of those mouldings, on new cars, are now being sacrificed on the altar of cost-cutting....but good durable aftermarket stick-on mouldings are available.

Only time I ever retaliated was when a SUV full of kids parked next to me and the kids kicked their door open and hit my car while I was in it. Mom didn't even bother to say sorry or anything even though she knew I was there and pissed off. I had a small dent in addition to the paint chip the size of the "O" I just typed out.
Lets just say a rough cut Titanium TRD keychain was very useful at the time. I moved my car right after of course.

im with Joeb427. but i will say this...if someone does knowingly ding my ride and brushes it off as if nothing happened, similar to eyezack87's situation, then retaliation is in order. it is fair, after all.

We all hate people who ding our cars, right? So why sink to their level?
Best way is to document what has taken place and try to get their info so they have to pay for the fix. Or if they refuse to give you information, call the police (who will probably take an hour to come). It would basically be a hit and run incident if the other party left w/o giving info (get their license plate). Now they are in trouble for more than just the repair cost. One can also see if there are any store or shopping center cameras, which seem to becoming more popular these days. Lastly, expect your car to get dinged. Since it's eventually going to happen, it's easier to swallow having the expectation ahead of time.

i caught a guy red handed who dinged the passenger door a few weeks ago. he was reluctant to give his insurance but his wife made him. always the freaking minivans that park beside me. even though the car's parked far away.
getting the ding fixed through insurance next week. otherwise it would have cost ~$100-150 for a paintless dent removal.

if they left, how do you prove that they dinged your car ?
you're screwed. anyone could copy down any license plate.

"their level" is someone that could care less about another person's property (and probably their own property). I work 2 jobs to support myself and my family, I don't need someone needlessly damaging my vehicle(s)...I now take all precautions possible...park far away and isolated.
