I wish they had this in the states, look at that beautiful leather wrapped dash, i hate the fact that they completely cheeped out on the US spec one.

Interesting comparison. I still think the U.S. dash looks decent. We just don't get the leather top, aluminum around the air vents, and contrasting stitching on steering wheel. Actually, I prefer not to have all the bright work. It reminds me of overly-glitzy GM interiors. The new Jetta's main problem is the put-me-to sleep front air intake area.

^^i agree, not to much going on up there i mean come on they pay these guys a lot of money to make these cars stand out and the front end took a 4th grader all of 8 minutes to scheme up. As far as the interiors go they do feel cheap and it shows. Its hard plastic all over, on the doors the dash the center console everywhere. If you get a black interior it looks disgusting once it gets dirty. Very nice car however for the money, and if the 2.0 turbo becomes available im going to be buying a white on tan for sure. This car is a lot like the audi a4, with the same motor minus the AWD system but for at least 15k dollars cheaper.

Just curious how one can tell the plastics are hard w/o having been in the car to sample. Is there a way to tell from the photos? Is it what C&D said in their brief write up? (serious question for learning purposes)

I have driven 6 different ones in 3 different dealers. The plastic is the same thing you would find in a new chevy cruze which i also test drove today. Its not totally terrible but it definitely doesn't need to be one thing for the US market then a whole different deal for the Euro spec. I think thats bull****, why would they even think of doing such a thing.

I hear ya. Bean counters at VW must have been desperate to save whatever cash they could. What I've always wondered is how much more expensive it to install softer plastic compared to hard plastic? Not being a plastics expert, I couldn't tell ya. But lets say it costs $50 more for the better material to cover a dashboard. Wouldn't that contribute so little to the sticker price to barely be noticed? Yet the finer materials would go miles in delighting more customers. Just don't understand some of these industry decisions...

I know right, 50 bucks is probably pushing it. My buddy works for this company that manufactures rubber parts for cars and he was telling me how they sell a door seal for the chevy trailblazer and gmc yukon for over 100 bucks and costs them 12 pennies to manufacture loll.

We acknowledge and understand your opinion but you don't need to go mad on the caps lock button.

Friendly reminder

P.S.
On topic:
I think VW is thinking of plans to add a V6 engine or start working on a Jetta R.

Yeah, just like the Japanese overuse of plastic and lights everywhere...

Are you willing to shell out 40k for that? Majority of Jetta buyers aren't.
