Spy Shots: Porsche 911 struts its stuff
We recently spied two next-generation Porsche 911 prototypes out testing, showing off its slightly revised shape and new exterior features. We can only imagine what sort of rigorous testing procedures are involved with creating a new 911, so it doesn't surprise us to see the the almost-naked Porsche back out on the road again.
Mum's the word on exactly what lies underneath the 911's new skin, though earlier reports have stated that the 3.6- and 3.8-liter flat-sixes will carry over unchanged, though a new electro-hydraulic steering could be on hand in an effort to improve overall efficiency. We've heard rumblings about more spacious rear seats and an electronic parking brake being fitted to the new 911, as well.
We expect Porsche to take the wraps off of the new 911 sometime early next year, possibly at March's Geneva Motor Show. Until then, get another glimpse at Porsche's pride and joy in our gallery of spy snaps below.

If the engine is behind the rear wheels, it's rear engined. Making it longer only exaggerates the effect, as the weight will act as a lever at longer distance from the center of mass. However, a longer chassis and wheelbase should give better high speed stability. If they wanted a mid-engine, they'd just move the engine and call it a Cayman/Boxter????

The wheelbase is rumored to be extended for more rear room. Doubt they would go mid engine with the 911 but a v8 model has been off/on rumored for a couple years which may explain the added length. A tuner company did fit a v8 in the 911 a year or so ago without much or any modification.
