Forty years after its namesake became a road racing legend, the BOSS name will return to race tracks all around the country strapped to a new 5.0-liter V-8 engine.
In honor of the 40th anniversary of Parnelli Jones’ 1970 Trans-Am championship in a Mustang BOSS 302 prepared by Bud Moore Engineering, Ford Racing is introducing the new 2011 Ford Mustang BOSS 302R, a factory-built race car ready for track days and road racing in a number of Grand-Am, SCCA and NASA classes.
The Mustang BOSS 302R is for use exclusively on the race track and will be priced from $79,000.
For this money, buyers will get a 5.0-liter four-valve V-8 powerplant and a 6-speed manual transmission with a roll cage, race seats, safety harness, data acquisition and race dampers and springs, plus a Brembo brake and tire package.
Available through Ford dealers, a total of 50 BOSS 302R Mustangs will be built, with first deliveries expected to start in the third quarter of 2010.

Ford's new DOHC V8 sounds like a killer motor, its close to the IS-F's power output!!

And I always liked Buicks....I guess I will never grow young. ![Big Grin](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
On the Boss, if you remember (and I'm sure you do), there were two Bosses.....a 302 and a 429. The 429 mill, I think, was shared with the Cougar Eliminator, but not other Mustangs....its sister Mach 1 Cobra Jet used the 428.

I have to say that I respect Ford and they have done nothing but impress me for the last 2 years with their new models and the fact that they didn't need bailout money.

Ford employees, however, paid a heavy price for that lack of bailout money. There were massive layoffs and numerous plant closings. Even now, with the Boss Mustang 302 coming back, the fact that only 50 will be built shows that there isn't much extra money in Ford's piggy bank right now. Even at a 79K selling price, the amount of full-race gear in this car shows it is going to be an expensive car to build, with heavy-duty materials. The dealers, no doubt, will make a real killing on price mark-ups (my guess is as much as 80-100% or more), but that money, of course, will stay with them, not go to the factory.

You might (?) have me on that one.
I didn't remember a Boss 351...but there was a 351 Cleveland in the '69-70 Mach 1. The standard, 2-barrel 351, however, in the Mach 1, was, IMO, rather unimpressive.....Chevy's 350 Nova/Chevelle/Camaro and Mopar's 340 Dart Swinger/Duster/Barracuda/Challenger could all handily dust it off.
