you're right that i misinterpreted you because you were slamming equus and salesperson so bad that i figured you were saying the depreciation was worse. thanks for clarifying.

i've never bought a used car but after seeing a used LS600hL for 60K i might have to rethink that even though that car is crazy in many ways (heavy as heck, still doesn't get great mileage, but i bet it's one smoooooooth freight train.

I was just slamming the salesman, never slammed the Equus at all. My impression of the Equus is still the same until I see and drive one.

Now that I gave it some thoughts, I like to rephase some of my reply to you

Just like anything, if you don't look into it and study a subject, you won't know. And cars comes in a bunch of different varieties and flavors, it takes a while to know them all. I know I am wasting the salesman's time, I am wasting my own time too. So after 18 years of test driving cars, I rarely test drive any car now a days, since once you drive one type of car, the rest is pretty much the same. Is like the LS460 pretty much feels just like my LS430, the 460 just got some very subtle differences and improvements. Now a days when a new car came out that interest me, I just go to the dealer to sit in it, I don't need to drive it at all. Like the Honda CR-Z, Odyssey, Volvo S60 T6, Mini Countryman are the few new cars that I check out recently but have no interest in driving.

I have concluded the best type of car for my daily driving needs are full size luxury sedan. So the Equus is definitely a contender for my future daily driver. I also go drive S-class, 7-series, Audi 8-series, Jag XJ.....even Bentley Arnage. I drives these cars, study them, learn and observe how they evolve over time. I am very picky, it takes a long time for me to find a car that fit me perfectly. I drove the LS600 cause the hybrid drive is different enough for me to try it.

Haha.....I own 2 Lexus now just because they are the best choice for my needs, I am not loyal to any brand at all. None of my previous 5 cars was a Lexus and from the direction of how my life goes with my changing preferences, I probably won't buy another Lexus again. It just happens that at this time in my life, Lexus made the 2 cars that fit my needs and preferences the most. For your info, I personally only own the LS and SC, the others are own by my family members. Most Lexus products are the best in it's class, it is easy to understand why so many people choose it.

The Equus will be my choice if I want to save money, but looks like my next daily driver will be something European

You think $60k for a mint LS600 is crazy? Try $60k for a mint 20k miles Bentley Arnage, their MSRP was $250k

My 50% off every 3 years works on everything well except cars like the Enzo or Mclaren F1

I think the Equus will end up being another Phaeton in terms of being a sales failure, not in terms of being a phenomenal vehicle with the wrong badge.

I predict the Equus will do better then the Phaeton since Hyundai's reliability is more trusted then VW's. I am sure the Equus probably won't be a smash hit, but it definitely will take away a few sales from the LS460, S400, 740i and A8....etc

We shall see how it does in the coming months. It will be a big test for Hyundai.

Yeah time will tell. But in this economic climate, a big value car like the Equus should make sense to some people.

Just saw this link in my email:

Pretty lame to me.
Sounds like they are even admitting to copying their design

Hyundai was a GREAT car, their salepeople are mostly idiots (sorry, spoken to several, only the GMs and SMs have a clue) and that's why I didn't get another Hyundai, they didn't hear a word I was saying

Trying to sell high end cars with low end staff isn't going to change Hyundai's perception to Tier 1 buyers.
+1

One of the most impressive things that I found with the Porsche sales guy when looking at the Panamera, is that he new every competitor vehicle in the class and new it's strengths and weaknesses. He didn't say one disparaging word about any other model or marque. That is how a great salesman sells cars.
Agree, although at a LEXUS dealer in Milwaukee all the sales guy did was bash every other SUV maker against his GX460... I was shocked...

Not to stray OT, but what dealer did you goto (I live in Mukwonago area & work in Brookfield)? We bought my wifes first Is250 at Lexus of Brookfield and the last IS350 down in IL.

Well I sent my info to one dealer. I get an e-mail saying multiple dealers will contact me (which I didn't want). I specifically wrote "please e-mail me, do not call".

Which was not followed as I've gotten calls. I also have e-mails from different dealers. I might try two different ones but I really just want to go to the closest one to check out the car.

Saw the IPL G coupe when I drove by the Infiniti dealer today, so I stopped by to check it out. They also got a fully loaded M56S with the optional pretty aggressive body kit that is pretty cool.

For those who criticized me of wasting salesman's time of test driving cars I have no intention of buying, I did not drive the IPL coupe and M56S today even though the salesman repeatedly ask me to drive them. The reason is I already have a very good idea of how they drive and both cars are not remotely what I want to own in the future. So I just looked at them, thanks the salesperson for his time and left. Trust me, for cars I am not interested, I don't even want to waste my own time to drive them.

The Equus is a car I would consider owning in the future, it fit my daily driving needs.

They're right; they didn't use just one. They used many.

Regardless, I'm still impressed by the car. Too bad I'm not in the market, or else I can't be bothered to set up a test drive and waste my time and the dealer's time like that.
