My reply to the Equus Customer Connect Center, everything I said is true and my intention is not to get that salesman in trouble, I just feel that Hyundai corporate would appreciate accurate real world feedback at the dealer/customer level. After all, they sent me a follow up email to see how things went.

Hello Equus Specialist,

Thank you for following up. Yes I was contacted by Elmo on December 21 in regards to the arrival of the Equus to Fantastic Hyundai. But no, a personalized demonstration was not schedule due to the reason of him not having any available Equus for demonstration. All he wanted to know from me is my preferred trim package and color combo on the Equus and if I am ready to buy one immediately. He did not sounds too enthusiastic about giving me a demonstration and as a result of that, I am losing interest to the personalized demonstration. He said he will call me back when he have a car for demonstration, I haven't heard back from him since.

Best regards,

BNR34

you should've been more truthful than that

Yes, your intention wasn't to get the salesman in trouble, but his low-level sales tactic will cause future sales loss. To the company, that's more important than hurting his feelings.

I was like this car is brand new to the world, so you think I want to buy a $65k Hyundai without even ever seeing one?.

that's typical for any salesman.

back in 2007, when the LS460 first came out, lexus salesmen looked at you as if you had the AIDS when you asked to test drive the LS.
they were so reluctant, as if putting 3 miles on the odo would depreciate the car $10000.

I am sure Elmo from Fantastic Hyundai is in a tight spot. Should he sell without a demonstration or provide a demonstration and hope to sell the car as a result.

What the hell...I even got an offer to test drive the Audi R8. I took the keys, sat in the car, but then gave the keys back to the salesman, thanking him for the respect bestowed upon me, and letting him know that the $120k+ price was not my cup of tea.

Funny I don't recall that at all though it may have happened to you. Looking at how well the LS 460 has done and how Lexus dealer service is still in the top 3 or so, seems to be an isolated incident.

Maybe other LS owners can chime in?

That's generally what happens to all hot new cars that just came out, regardless of how much the car cost. They only let you drive it if they believe you can afford one and is a serious buyer.

It always make me laugh when low end salesman do that to cheap cars......the last car I remember was the Hyundai Genesis coupe, they treat that $25k coupe like a $250k Ferrari

Thank god now a days I rarely feel the need to drive any new cars, I am so sick of dealing with car salesman.

Well I don't want to make him lose his job in this tough economic climate, he really didn't do anything bad to me, he was just being a typical car salesman, just not a very classy one.

I'm of the mindset that in this economic climate you better be doing the best damn job you possibly can so you can stay ahead of your peers - no excuses. If this guy loses his job, oh well, someone more qualified to deliver the premium car buying experience will get the job.

If he's a good performer for the dealership selling their current lineup, they can give him the necessary training to sell the Equus (and Genesis).

A few more events happened and I don't feel like sharing them anymore since I got more criticism then positive comment.

Let's just say I gave up on the in home personalized demonstrations that they are making such a big deal on. I will go check out the car at the dealer some day when I am really bored, probably not anytime soon though. The car will be at the dealer for a few years even if the sales volume fail really hard. I am in no hurry

I am not driving 45 minutes to test drive a Hyundai, a Bentley Mulsanne.....yes.........but not a Hyundai.

So I saw that new ad for the Equus, and I think it was meaningless. Most of the ad is spent showcasing the iPad, with very little time or words spent on showcasing the Equus.

Apple must be really happy with Hyundai, since they are giving the iPad free advertising .

IMHO, I think this is a clear example of Hyundai's arrogance, impatience, and obsession with mimicking other companies starting to backfire on them. If I wasn't a car guy, I would literally think I was watching an iPad commercial, not a car commercial.
