It's been 42 years since Ford offered its Mustang in Boss 302 trim, but the model has been reborn for the 2012 model year. Although we've already learned quite a bit about the track-tuned pony car, the automaker revealed today that it carries a base price of $40,995, including an $850 destination fee.
As predicted, that price puts the performance-tuned Boss smack dab between the 2011 Mustang GT ($30,495) and the high-end, low-volume, supercharged Shelby GT500 models ($49,495). Roughly $10,000 over a stock GT, the Boss 302 adds a number of go-fast goodies, including adjustable dampers, adjustable power steering assist, limited-slip rear diff, upgraded Brembo brakes, and a little more power eked from the 5.0-liter V-8. Buyers can also add Recaro front seats and a Torsen torque-sensing limited-slip rear diff for $1995, while those who desire the metallic Yellow Blaze paint can add it for an extra $495. Ford also offers buyers the opportunity to add special, limited-production Boss 302 floor mats and a fitted car cover for $475.
Those truly interested in taking their Mustang to the track will likely spring for the Laguna Seca edition, which adds unique suspension tuning, light-weight 19-inch wheels with race compound tires, a rear pedestal spoiler, brake cooling ducts, additional chassis bracing, special Recaro seats, the Torsen rear diff, and a rear seat delete. Pricing for the Limited-production Laguna Seca model starts at $47,995. Ford has, however, refrained from releasing pricing information for the new TracKey controller system.
Interested in ordering a Boss 302? You'd better move fast. Ford dealers are already taking orders, although deliveries won't begin until the spring of 2011. The automaker has yet to reveal just how many Boss 302s it plans on building, but according to the official dealer order guide, Boss 302s are expected to account for a scant 5 percent of all 2012 Mustang production, while the Laguna Seca will represent one percent.

I think the BOSS 302 is a beast and encourage this type of range variation. Buy the mods you can afford up front and have the reliability of a factory warranty. Great price for the performance.
