I mostly agree with you BUT the list becomes semi-irrelevant directly related to your points above... as I said, pure entertainment
... and yes, if its a TEN BEST, reliability HAS to be in my equation... a TEN BEST that sits on the side of the road wouldn't qualify, at least in my book

C&D looks at (in no order of importance, and some points vary depending on class)...
- Driving dynamics / driving fun
- Significance within a car's segment
- Performance
- Space, comfort, ergonomics
- Styling
- Value
- Innovation
Generally, they pick the car that bests accomplishes these criteria even though we as buyers add numerous other criteria like reliability, safety, price, fuel efficiency, and other personal needs.

It is with many people. Consumer Reports, for example, will not put a new or extensively-redesigned vehicle on its Recommended List unless it does well in CR's own testing, NHTSA/IIHS crash-tests, AND has established enough of a reliability record in the CR database to have at least an Average or higher reliability rating. If an all-new or extensively-redesigned vehicle tests out well and passes the other safety/crash tests, CR puts it on a "Promising" list, which means that, in time, it WILL be Recommended if the reliability is high enough.

MY 10 Best based on the hypothetical list I posted...
-Sub-compact car...................Toyota Yaris S sedan (which I bought)
-Compact car..........................Honda Civic
-Mid-size car (under $30K).........Hyundai Sonata
-Mid-size car (over $30K)...........Lexus IS
-Full size sedan (under $40K)......Buick Lacrosse
-Luxury sedan (over $40K)..........Cadillac CTS
-Luxury sedan (over $60K)..........Lexus LS
-Sports coupe (under $40K)........Chevy Camaro
-Sports coupe (over $40K)..........Chevy Corvette
-Hybrid/Electric.........................Toyota Prius
Hard list to make. I had some ties but went with one.

I'm with you. Reliability is my #1 most important buying criteria. If it was C&D's, then it would be a list of 10 Toyota's/Lexus'. Yet it doesn't have even one.
C&D looks at (in no order of importance, and some points vary depending on class)...
- Driving dynamics / driving fun
- Significance within a car's segment
- Performance
- Space, comfort, ergonomics
