You've got that right. Too many of them ARE like race tracks.

Nor do some of the drivers who DO have them in the area.

I personally do not like them. They have one on Long Beach that I avoid at all costs because:

1. People don't know how to use it. I've seen so many near misses and I've actually been hit once when someone didn't yield. I know drivers need to be better educated about them but I'm not holding my breath on that.

2. Ricers love to drive around it at a high rate speed trying to drift.

I think making them standard in American is hugely problematic because the challenge of educating drivers how to use them. I simply don't know how it can be done at this stage.

I find them less irritating, though, than speed bumps. Almost nothing else, on the road, p***es me off more than speed bumps, DO NOT ENTER signs, and neighborhood side-street barricades. You simply can't get away from them anymore...they pop up everywhere.

You don't have to be a speed freak, either (and I'm not one) to despise speed bumps. Just going over them at 5 MPH or under (or the 10-15 MPH speed-humps).....and the constant wear on the brakes and transmission....is a PITA.

That's where I first saw one at many years ago.

There are none in my area but there is one near a beach I frequent and I've had no issues with it.

They have been getting rid of them in RI although there are still a couple left.

I always enjoy doing a few laps around Carrier Circle in Syracuse everytime I'm in upstate NY

having grown up in england i'm a big fan of roundabouts. they don't slow down traffic when it's light and they give minor road users a chance to cross or turn onto major roads without waiting for annoying lights.

however, a giant problem that some 'traffic circles' in nj had when i used to drive there were that they gave right of way to people ENTERING the circle, and made those already ON the cirle YIELD to those entering. that was the stupidest thing ever.

exactly.

In many areas, local governments have gone way overboard in terms of directing drivers and I'm convinced that's why drivers have so much trouble any time they have to actually make decisions for themselves.
despite challenges educating the public and the ludicrously simple driving test in the u.s., i would still prefer roundabouts to traffic lights where i also see tons of accidents!

hahaha, you haven't seen aggressive until you've seen roundabouts in central london, paris, or rome!

This is my favourite; Swindon's "Magic Roundabout" - featuring 4 mini-roundabouts around one large one. You go clockwise round the mini-roundabouts and anti-clockwise around the large one:

Well it works in theory, although I have heard a couple of Japanese tourists were going round it for 4 days before being helicopter rescued..

Forgot to add, we call them circles here.
Respectfully, New Jersey should be getting rid of people's drivers licenses rather than traffic rounds.
