Car designer Jon Sibal may have a scoop on the upcoming E82 1M Coupe - that we may see multiple iterations of that model.
In talking to his BMW sources, Sibal discovered that BMW are looking at special edition options for the upcoming 1M Coupe that could see a limited series variant taking inspiration from such BMW classics as the E36 LTW, E46 CSL and the more recent E92 GTS.
Sibal says specifically that BMW is considering a "Performance Program" for the 1M Coupe.
"Anything is possible, we have ideas and the creativity to expand. In the end it all comes down to the reception of the car," said Sibal's BMW source in an e-mail interview with him.
The next 1M Coupe is coming in a few days but production will run only until the spring of 2012. That is a little more than a year on the assembly line. And although BMW initially planned on limiting the 1M Coupe's number to 2700 units, it now says it will make as many as the market demands.
Sibal himself doubts we'll see a special edition 1M Coupe of this current generation. As his source tells him, they will probably hold onto those ideas for the next-generation.
The 1M Coupe will be unveiled this month featuring a 250 kW (340 PS / 335 bhp) twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine. But, as we've previously reported, a BMW product sheet listing all of the 1-Series engines showed a U.S. specified model with 332 kW (451 PS / 445 bhp).
Could that have been a hint?

It's still a 1 Series; it explains why the rendering is from a top-down view, as having any other view would make it look ugly .
I love the idea of such a car, but I cannot say I like it simply because I hate the current 1 Series styling. If and when BMW improves the styling, then I would appreciate the 1 Series more in general .

With that said, I wasn't criticizing the performance or the specs. I'm criticizing the looks of the 1 Series. My point was, to me, it's still going to look ugly because of the goofy front and rear ends.
Like I said, I might change my mind in the future if the redesigned 1 Series looks better.

135 - which is the base for whatever this 1M/GTS/etc ends up being - "feels" faster than ISF b/c it actually goes around a track in less time. What a concept. Although the margin was 0.3 at VIR so it was about dead even but 0.3 faster is still faster.
A 135i feels faster than an IS F, lol. Fair enough, maybe it "feels" faster just like a lot of kids and ricers think a stock Civic "feels fast" . Performance figures don't lie however, and an IS-F is certainly faster.

My friend, a chipped 135i will wipe the floor with the IS-F in a straight line. Around a track it's a no brainer. There's nothing rice about this car, I don't know what this car has to do with teenagers and civic, I think that was a very childish remark. Teenagers think their civic is fast because the fastest car they drove behind their civic is their mom's Camry I4. Seriously man, go drive one of these and you will understand why your comments are so foolish.

I agree with TRD. You could put the Veyron powerplant in a 1 Series shell and I still wouldn't care. The car looks stupid and cartoonish IMO and for that reason I'd never remotely consider owning one.
