Spy Shots: Lincoln MKT Hearse looks to be one swanky final ride

Halloween may have been two months ago, but our quick-shooting spy photographers have just captured the first images of Lincoln's upcoming MKT hearse. (Yes, hearse.) With the impending death of the Town Car not too far ahead, Ford Motor Company has already stated that the Flex-based MKT crossover will be uplifted to serve a variety of special livery duties. This means that in addition to this rather fetching hearse, we can probably expect to see stretched limousine versions of the MKT in the not-too-distant future.

It isn't immediately clear if this MKT hearse is fully a factory effort or if Ford is conducting testing with an aftermarket livery company, but this prototype has been spotted in Ford's usual stomping grounds, and it boasts a Michigan Manufacturer license plate. The tester seen here appears to be powered by the automaker's 3.7-liter V6, an engine that's currently available in the base MKT, and that seems just fine by us. After all, there really isn't any need for the more powerful EcoBoost V6 in a vehicle that's designed for slow, sorrow-filled processions. The prototype's stretched wheelbase and taller roof should provide ample room for even the largest of – ahem – passengers, and based on our experiences with the standard-issue MKT, things shouldn't be too spartan for the driver, either.

Have a look at the full set of MKT Hearse spy shots in our high-resolution gallery below, and look for this larger-than-life (or death) Lincoln to start arriving at funeral homes near you.

The standard model looks like a hearse. A vehicle put to good use.

What is up with all the 'MK' designations on new Lincoln cars?

Nice hull design (the goofy roof). One way to burn up excess inventory.

Considering that the standard model pretty much looks like a hearse anyway, you could almost see this coming. Sadly, the pic above is more appealing than the production model.

Failed! Ugly, looks like re-assembled in my garage. Just because it's a hearse does not mean it can't be tasteful...

Lol,,you going straight down for that one. Do not pass go,,no reward at the end.
If you look at it carefully, it actually does still look somewhat town car-esque; especially from the front. Like what the next town car would be if they weren't killing it off soon. Considering what the production model MKT looks like, U orefer this one better. Could almost sell that as a wagon, minus a few design cues.

It's the updated version of the Lincoln "Mark x".

At least the hearse version of the MKT does away with the ugly bustle butt.

Don't know if I would go that far,, but I do agree that it IS a tamer version of it.

Front profile,,,I do like. It reminds me of an updated version of the town car, and where it would have been heading. Still has that town car-esque look from the front. Side profile, especially for something this long, is almost spot on for what it's intended purpose is. Rear,,I still hate the MKT look of the rear, however this is probably one of the few applications where that trademark lighting on the rear is probably the less offensive. Afterall, you DO have to do something with all of that empty space back there and I can say that I don't hate it. Not in love with it, but don't hate it either.
