Not really. Some 500-HP Mercedes AMG and BMW M products go for roughly in that price range (in American dollars).

Way I'm seeing it, you're right, it would... Audi's trying to slot it between the S5 and R8... loaded I would think right around $100K, JUST shy of loaded 2011 A8L w/ B&O sound and all the goodies... which I priced at $119,800

For 2012, I can see the S5 up to $67-$70K... cabrio is already $73K

E63 AMG with a couple bells and you're north of $100K... AND... no AWD like the Audis

I think Audi would be wise NOT to price all the way to MB... AND.... NOBODY else has AMG... been "testing" lately

Yeah....I reviewed an E63 AMG a few years ago at some 94K list, and the new ones are 100K or over. The supercharged Jag XKR convertible I did for the special holiday review just this year was 106K.

how much hp will be packed on a FACTORY rs5? the 500hp rs5 in this thread seems to cost a lot more and it's not from factory.

e63, cls63, m5, m6 are all 6 figure cars, i am very well aware of that (i was in the market of one).

but i think the rs5 is a car to compete with c63 and m3. do you see those cars at 100k? even the top of the line m3 convertible, it's only freaking 80k msrp. for audi to put 100k tag on the rs5, i don't know what to think. and if you are telling me the rs5 is a car to go up against the m6? you gotta be kidding me. the rs5 isn't in the e63, cls63, m5, and m6 league

Right with ya Henry... went all the way to $140K on the Aston, just not worth it (again, based on my Wisconsin location). I do believe, however, that the RS5 is kind of in "No Man's Land" with how it's getting slotted.

For me... okay, I'll admit to this... just priced winter wheels for a MB C63 AMG and communicating with several who drive regularly in the snow with one... $70K with all I need + $2k for winter set-up, test drove a couple weeks back.... absolute f--kin' BEAST.... put the Shelby to shame, the sound is like a drug... perhaps the journey is done...

BOT- I think Audi had to go to 500HP to get something to compete with M3 (at 414 HP) and MB C63 (451HP).... going to M5, M6 or E63 the RS5 is NOT in their ballpark, period. Audi has BEAUTIFUL autos, BUT they trail against the total package MB and BMW present anytime pure power (and accompanying luxury or handling depending on brand) comes into the mix. That's the historical issue with Audi- blend luxury, handling, and power, not master any of the three... and hence the costs and alienation when they go there...

i am not sure if the no-man land thing will apply on the rs5. with what they are doing the car is pretty much looking straight into m3 and c63. if no-man land is really what audi has in mind, they i think they did a **** poor job with the car.

the whole idea of s5 and rs5 are about performance, so it only makes sense to focus on performance of these cars. the s5 is nothing when put together with the m3, in fact people put it together with the 335. so when the rs5 come out, it only makes sense for people to do another comparison with the m3.

i will see how the rs5 stack up with the m3 and c63, but my gut feeling is it won't really run up front much, if at all. and at that point, most people will throw in the price and question why. of course there will be people loving the rs5 look and just go for it, however, overall it might just be the rs4 story all over again

Yes... they did, I am extremely disappointed, I hope what I am hearing is way off

Great points (it WON'T run against the C63 even with 500HP), so I guess here's the best way to access it... based on performance (known or estimated) AND price, which would you prefer?:

1. Mercedes Benz C63 AMG ($70K)
2. BMW M3 w/ competition package ($70K)
3. Audi RS5 (I'll be generous- at LEAST $85K)

Maybe a poll's in order?

hahaha if performance and price is what to look for, look no further than m3. the c63 is more front heavy. the rs5, if it's along the path of say the previous rs4 vs m3, then i don't see myself paying 15k extra for not much more.

don't want to make a poll in this thread, seems unfair to the original topic

My point... M3 vs C63... and I think I would live with the front heavy C63 every time I pressed on the gas

I'm leaning C63 until the new 2012 C63 AMG coupe arrives with the new twin-turbo V-8 with 518HP...

I hope to hear from Audi on the RS5's arrival....

~$170K USD for a 500HP Audi RS5 that is 0-60 in 4.2?

Unless that thing is like a wet dream around a track, you've got to be kidding me.

converting prices from europe to US is not a good idea, all the tax and stuff are different. look at the prices of s5 and maybe m3 over there for comparison is probably a better idea

I'm going to agree with Henry on this one. You normally don't see such a disparity in price between a base car and the the top of the line performance version - an A5 2.0 has a base MSRP of around $36k. That's almost 3 A5's for the price of one RS5. The difference between models is normally 2x the price.
