Ferrari boss hints at hybrid 2012 612 Scaglietti successor for Geneva

Ferrari boss Luca de Montezemolo has hinted to a French magazine that Ferrari will be debuting a hybrid version of the 612 Scaglietti successor at the Geneva auto show next March.

"You will see at Geneva a very different new Ferrari that proves we are adapting to a changing world," Montezemolo is quoted as saying in an article in L'Equipe, a French sport magazine.

Speculation is that the 2012 612 Scaglietti successor, which is expected to premiere in Geneva, will feature the Italian supercar maker's HY-KERS hybrid system which debuted at the 2010 show in Geneva earlier this year in the 599 HY-KERS concept.

Such a vehicle would see the coupling of a 6.0 liter V12 with around 397 kW (533 hp / 540 PS) and 588 Nm (434 lb-ft) of torque and an electric motor producing about 74kW (99 bhp/ 101 PS). An F1-derived 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is very likely in the 612 successor too.

Ferrari had previously announced it was working on a hybrid system to be put into production by 2015. It may be that Montezemolo simply decided to move up the launch date to 2012. Or the Ferrari introduced in Geneva will be a seperate concept car featured alongside the expected 612 successor.
