Interesting, outside North America, Honda's sales are well below Toyota and Nissan and is closer to Mitsubishi and Suzuki.

It's interesting that Ford's Mercury division is still outselling Lincoln for BOTH December and YTD. Maybe not a good sign.

Yes indeed, it is quite interesting. Honda is quite popular in the US and Canada, but hardly in any other markets. This includes its home market of Japan.

wild year.
  • toyota selling 600k camrys and corollas is amazing given how bland they are and how much more and improved the competition has become. toyota has become gm of old with better quality.
  • ford selling over 500k f-150s is also amazing!
  • i find the lexus, bmw, mb sales volume comparisons to be pretty meaningless because a) their product lines are very different, and b) i'm betting bmw/mb do WAY more leases than lexus and leases are technically a rental not a sale!
  • porsche panamera outsold the lexus gs for the year

I find it funny how enthusiasts are always "amazed" at Camry and Corolla sales . They sell BECAUSE they are bland, and because they are still great cars at the end of the day.

bland isn't the only reason, many are loyal repeat camry buyers who love the reliability and trust they have in the brand and the dealer relationship. i know the owner of a local dealer and they work very hard to treat repeat customers like royalty.

This is true, but part of the reason cars like the Camry can build up a loyal following is by being inoffensive. Mainstream cars really can't have a loyal following by having polarizing styling. There are plenty of examples throughout the past 10-20 years where mainstream models with polarizing styling failed in the market.

Good customer loyalty, still pretty good quality and reliability and general competitiveness, and on top of that elegant yet inoffensive styling. That is why the Camry and Corolla continue to sell well.

the current camry's interior is anything but elegant. also, toyota ceo admits cars are boring and is trying to make them more 'exciting' and is "intent on making Toyota cars better looking,". https://www.clublexus.com/forums/car...ng-lineup.html
