This will be my first real "road trip". I am driving from Buffalo, New York to Detroit Michigan for the 2011 North American International Auto show. It's about a 5 hour drive there and 5 back at 275 miles each way and my friends and i are taking my trusty lexus es300. Only real problem is my age and so are the people i am with, so trying to get a hotel room may be an issue. What im trying to say is im pumped ha. I will be there the 22-23, and hopefully who knows, maybe ill run into some fellow club lexus members ha

im going sometime during the week, if you go there on the weekend you will not have a chance to see sheet, there is so many people there its a waste of time, you wont be able to sit in anything or get a full look of any car.

I have exams the entire week before and friday night i'm going skiing so i can't go until the weekend when i have a chance to drive up. Thanks for the heads up and yea ill take plenty of pictures.

I've done the reverse drive a couple of times in the past couple of years. Pretty boring, but at least having your friends with you will keep you entertained. I had planned to go to the Industry Preview ($75/ticket!) tonight with a friend of mine to escape the crowds of the public show, but unfortunately she isn't able to make it up here. I don't want to deal with the crowds on the weekend, so I'll just miss it this year.

I mean the cars are nice, but just the experience to will be an issue. A problem is i am havign a problem gettign a hotel room in detroit. I am 3 months from beign 18, but findign a room is nearly impossible. Anyone know a way around this?

Have you tried looking at smaller/cheaper hotel chains in surrounding areas?

^I will be calling around tomorrow. I mean i know it has to do with signing a legally binding contract, but i mean if i am carrying a valid credit card, and have proper id, i don't see what the problem is. Also in Detroit, i don't want to go to low rent as i am not really familiar with whats there or the areas certain places are you know?

Yeah immediate surrounding Detroit isn't the best. If you're willing to make the 45min/40mile drive you could head over to Ann Arbor, MI which is a college town (University of Michigan). Not sure, but I bet they'd be a little more lenient. I'd help you out some more since I'm in Ann Arbor for school, but I'll be out of town this weekend.
