Lexus has released a new line of commercials that revolve around the theme "the hard way." In one such commercial titled Chain, Lexus attaches cables to an LS sedan and raises it off the ground. The idea is to show you how strong the chassis is because it can support its own weight when lifted into the air. Since the theme is "the hard way," the weight of just one single LS clearly isn't enough and Lexus attaches four vehicles to LS and raises them all in the air.

The commercial does an excellent job of conveying Lexus' solid built quality through a visual exercise. Is it real though? You bet'cha it is... and to show how they did it, Lexus has released a behind-the-scenes video and it's hanging around after the jump. We also threw in a few more examples of Lexus' "The Hard Way" campaign just for the fun of it. Enjoy!

So in a sense they're implying that the LS is the support structure of the Lexus fleet and from this car, strength trickles downward to the rest of the line then finally it all collects and accumilates into the LFA. Subliminal message or just crazy thinking from me. LOL

That makes complete sense since the LS was the first Lexus and the LFA is the grand halo product.

LOVE all the commercials except the first one--it's just too hard for people to relate to. I mean, how can any regular consumer relate to how many cars can be chained vertically underneath a car, when there's absolutely nothing in our real life to compare that stunt to? How are we supposed to know if it's something most cars can already do, or if it's really something that only a Lexus can, because Lexus does it the "hard way"? I would love to see Lexus try the same stunt on some of the competitors' cars and film how they break under such stress. Only then the test will mean something.

Considering how many people value strength and safety into their car-buying decision, I'd say that not many people have problem relating.

I remember those ridiculous (turned out to be fake) Volvo ads from the 80's-90's because everyone talked about how strong the cars were.

I don't remember any other car ad having that profound an effect on me as I grew up. My family even owned some Volvos thanks to those ads (even after we knew they were fake).

The commercial looks awesome, it was done for real, AND it proves the engineering excellence of Lexus vehicles. What more is there to relate to?

Commercials don't need to be analyzed so deeply.

No reason for them to show how the others hold up when they never made an ad like this in the first place. Until they show more cars hanging together the consumer will assume that Lexus makes maybe the strongest cars.

The ad also mentions for people to go to to website where they will also possibly watch the behind the scenes videos.

The ad was very effective, it shows the strength of the cars and as slvr srfr stated "from the LS to the IS" and it all goes into the LFA.

Its one of Team One's better commercials as of late. Very well done!

Seeing all those commercials just made me appreciate my Lexus even more. I'm so happy I'm driving one.

I kind of have to agree with Mister Two here. It is impressive there is no doubting that, but we dont know whether or not an S class can do the same. its just like those old mercedes benz commercials, where the tag line was "because we promised you a mercedes benz"

"why did we engineer the doors on the C class to hold a 200 pound man..." I havent tried, but Im pretty sure every other car can too
