Cool New BMW 245hp twin turbo 4 cylinder motor announced

From http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=477882

Look like base/lower BMW models will start getting these twin turbo 4 cylinder engines. Wonder I they'll have as much tuning potential as the n54 turbo 6.

Less displacement, probably not as much tuning potential but more tuning potential than your avg car since they are usually N/A.

Wow. That's a decent amount of hp. Wonder how fuel economy is going to be.

tuning or not, i'd be very happy with 245hp under my hood out of the factory - in a 4 banger too!

ANd yeah, curious to see the fuel econ.

Judging by the specs, sounds like a great engine!

An Evo gets 300hp from a 2.0 turbo...should be a piece of cake to bump the HP on this.

I'd avoid it like the plague until its PROVEN to actually work and not fail at a high rate.

Porsche working on a 4-cyl engine.

But this TT 4-cyl turning out 245 hp pretty awesome. To bad the displacement is 2.0L, would have been nice if it was like 1.5L (not sure if thats possible)

It's not a twin turbo motor but BMW's twinpower turbo. It's just their hyped way of saying it's a twin scrolled turbo.

I love how BMW is integrating turbo into their whole lineup of engines and maximizing horsepower and fuel Effienciency. This motor is suppose to get 37mpg. Toyotas cool to...with their hybrids lol

Based on EUROPEAN fuel economy standards yes. Don't be fooled by this marketing. European standards are different, even the gallons used in their calculations are different than the US EPA standards.

Based on that BMW fact sheet, this motor achieves roughly the equivalent of 24 mpg city, and 36 mpg highway EPA. I doubt the motor will get such good EPA ratings in the US. This is a conversion of the listed numbers based on the European fuel economy ratings.

I'd be curious about the refinement of the engine. A big selling point (at least for me) on BMW's has been silky smooth Inline 6's. We shall see

A 245hp 4 cylinder car? Has that ever been done before?

I can't think of any 4 cylinder cars having any power close to that.
